Amazon product reviews! Doh! Why didn’t I think of that? =) I’m going to make a list tomorrow of all the products in my niche that we actually own, and I”m going to write reviews for them. I can’t believe I never thought of this!
And commenting, I’ve been doing that for a while, and I think I’ve been building up a bit of a reputation slowly, one comment at a time.

Hey Delena, you just gave me an idea there. You know though I’ve known about amzon product reviews for some time now I’ve never really done anything about. It just hit me how much I underestimate Amazon, and since parents are great marketing material for product reviews (through being given gifts for their children, buying their own necessities, etc.) that I figured why not already start with what I had?

Hi Lora, there are really many other sites where you can get back links through reviews. I think you can use dmoz.com and alexa.com also if you really know what to do.
I did a few pages on my site containing product reviews. I reviewed products that I’d bought recently or products that I was going to buy. I chose the products from Amazon’s lists of top 100 products during the month. Unfortunately for me, my Google Webmaster Tool tells me that the product review pages on my site are way down in the search results. In fact, there have been no human visitors to these pages in a month.
Your idea of reviewing products on sites like Amazon.com and ePinions is a good one. It is indeed a good way to showcase my expertise and get backlinks to my blog. I’ll do it this month and monitor the progress.
Hi Russell, your experience tells much about what google is doing with the new algorithm change. Is the product review pages on your site written by you or you simply used the same review content on Amazon.com? I have the feeling that google is seeing your product review pages as duplicate content hence they are way down in the search results.
Im submitting my site to quality, human reviewed web directories to help with backlink purposes and SEO. Is this an acceptable SEO building practise, and are web directories normally held in good repute so there will be no repurcussions from me doing this? I will only be submitting to high PR web directories and those that show quality.
No prizes for working out whether I use comments and contests (like yours, which by the way, I think that it is a really good idea from a bloggers point of view!)

Yeah, wordpress.com and squidoo.com are really great in building backlinks. But there should be some caution when using wordpress.com. I’ve had some of my blogs there closed down in the past simply because there were seen as spams since there were only linking to a particular site!

Yes, commenting is worth doing. And while dofollow comments give you direct benefit, nofollow ones are worthwhile also. The reason is that you’ll get some clicks coming in off them – particularly if they are on high traffic blogs.
Also, by being seen by both the blog owner and also lots of other bloggers who are themselves commenting, you might eventually get a dofollow link from one of them in time. That’s why it’s always worth writing something thoughtful and non-spammy.
@Matt, truly agree with you. Commenting is and will always continue to be a powerful way of generating traffic. And though, dofollow blogs have some advantages, even the nofollow blogs are very important as you mentioned. You made it very clear indeed and every blogger should have a mix of nofollow and dofollow blogs for commenting on.

There are a lot of factors to follow and rules to respect. stand out from the crowd, it is one of the best ways to increase traffic, think of it like this: why would anyone visit my website upon a competitor of mine on the same niche ? What’s so special and unique about my website ? Why should I deserve more traffic upon one of my competitors ? Those are great questions that you must answer yourself being sincerely, answer the questions then start working harder and better, try to focus more on your work and don’t think non-stop about the money, keep the passion for your work on.
