I rank number one for one of the most competitive key terms out there on Google.

Can you take a guess what it is?

It’s online marketing. You know what?

Guess how much money that one keyword makes me?

Little to nothing.

Why?

Because I picked the wrong keyword to rank number one for.

Hey everyone, I’m Neil Patel, and today I’m gonna share with you how to find the right keywords to rank number one on Google for.

The first tip I have for you is go put in your competitor URL, in Semrush. What Semrush will show you is your most popular pages, that your competitors are getting getting traffic for.

This will give you ideas of what your competitors are doing. If your competitors are bigger than you, they probably know what they’re doing, and they’re probably going after keywords and traffic, that’s converting into leads and sales.

You wanna make sure you look at your strategy before you come up with your own. Once you’ve figured out their most popular pages, go take those pages and go put them into Ahrefs.

Ahrefs will show you how many links each of those pages have, and you know what the hardest thing is, is to build links?

What you wanna do is go look for the most popular pages that has the least amount of links. That means those are the pages you should be focusing on first. It’ll give you ideas on all the keywords that your competitors are ranking for when they don’t have a ton of backlinks.

That’ll give you idea of the ones you should be targeting first, ’cause not only will they drive you a lot of traffic, but they’re the lease competitive because you don’t have to build backlinks.

The second tip I have for you is use Google Search Console. Did you know that Google gives you a free tool that helps you rank number one? Yes, it’s called Google Search Console. It breaks down all of your rankings, the key words that your pages are getting traffic for, and even the positioning as page 1, page 2, page 3, the six spot on page one, right? It breaks down exactly where you’re ranking.

Now the cool part about Google Search Console is when you dive deep into each of your pages using the search analytics, it shows you all of the impressions that you’re getting for keywords that you’re on the bottom of page one for. The reason you wanna go after the keywords that you’re at the bottom of page one for, it’s way easier to rank number one for a keyword, that you’re already on the first page for, versus going after a brand new keyword that you’re not even in the top hundred for.

Going after a brand new keyword that you’re not even in the top hundred for, is a lot more work than going after one that you’re already on the bottom of page one for.

While you realize that Google Search Console is that you rank for a lot of long tail keywords at the bottom of page one, that you’re not even trying to go after, but yet they drive traffic, and they convert visitors into customers.

So once you have those keywords, you wanna look at them, and Google Search Console shows you all these keywords. You wanna then go to your landing page, and make sure that those keywords are are in your title tag, your meta description, your heading tag, and within the content of your page. By doing that, you’ll slowly start increasing your rankings for those pages that you’re at the bottom of page one for.

The last tip I have for you to finding amazing keywords is to use Google Trends. It’s another free tool by Google. It breaks down keyword traffic from web images, news.

This breaks down what keywords are climbing in popularity, and you wanna go after the keywords that aren’t popular yet, but are climbing.

Foe example, Apple has a ton iPhones, right? I don’t know what’s the next one they’re gonna release, but let’s say it’s the iPhone 100. If they’re gonna release the iPhone 100, you wanna talk about it before everyone else is talking about it, because the moment you’re one of the first adopters, one of the factors that Google has when it comes to rankings is time.

It’s hard to outrank older pages. It’s not impossible, it’s just harder, so why not be one of the first people to blog about new terms that aren’t popular yet. So, let’s say the iPhone 100 is coming out. You can be blogging about it. You can be blogging about iPhone 100 cases, iPhone 100 apps, new features that they have, and even if you don’t know ’em all, just blog about the ones you do know about. You could even make your own predictions. Let’s say you don’t even know anything about the iPhone 100.

You could be writing articles about huh, here’s my 10 predictions for the iPhone 100. Even if they’re wrong, that’s okay. You’re not lying to people. As long as you’re taking really good educated guesses, and providing amazing content, people won’t have issues.

So write about new upcoming keywords, because you’re not gonna get traffic from them right away, but in two, three months, or even a year, you’re gonna be dominating, because no one else went after those keywords before you did. Just think about green tea, and acai berries, and all of those hot crazy nutrition terms. Yes, they’re really popular now, and they’re buzz words, but back in the day, no one was really looking at them.

If you’re not sure what keywords are up and coming, just tell me the keyword, or link in the comments below using the Google Trends link, and I’ll tell you if it’s a good keyword, or a bad keyword, if it’s up and coming, or it’s declining.

That way you’re not wasting your time writing articles on stuff that won’t be popular.

Online Marketing: 2 Sides of the Coin

In today’s highly competitive marketplace, Online Marketing is one of the most effective ways to grow your business. In the recent past, this amazing marketing methodology has helped small scale industries and various start-ups across several domains, to succeed and to capture their audience.

In order to increase your exposure on web, there is a need to leverage SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and SEM (Search Engine Marketing ) strategies according to your business needs.

Basically Search Engine Marketing along with Search Engine Optimization are some of those techniques that can create a deep impact on your audience regarding your product. Therefore, there is an immense need to wisely use these techniques and methods.

how to win the online marketing war!

Steps to Online Marketing Success

The initial step that has to be taken in this regard is “Research”. To study market and marketplace is a necessity. This will in turn help you to understand the competition.

If you really want to be a leader, you will have to bring something unique, something different from the league that can draw the attention of your customers. You must know the characteristics of your market and market audience, their needs and demands and then probably you can make a strategy to package your products, in a way that brings value to your customers.

The second thing that should be kept in mind is that you need to work hard on your web appearance. No matter, how good your product or service is, if in case your appearance on the web is dull, you are lost.

You need to design your website in an optimized way, keeping three things in mind: Market (Your Audience), Sales Process and Search Engines. You should never compromise in utilizing the top notch technology when planning for an effective web presence.

With these measures, you can effectively develop a positive brand image of your services or products and can take a dive in the pool of success.

But this is just one side of the coin.

The Ugly Face of Online Marketing

When we are indulged into the talks of publicity of your brand you should also be aware of the fact that this same tool, so called as “Online Marketing”, can also be used for negative publicity and can destroy your image all in one go. As your every competitor is in the mood of utilizing this technique to capture the market, they are also planning strategies to create negative publicity for your brand.

In the recent times, this ugly face of your competitors have emerged wherein they are using fake social Ids and accounts to post negative comments about your products or services.

The thing to understand here is that, today you are not just doing business, you are fighting a war with all your competitors and the bitter reality is that, everything is fair in this war. Several times these techniques of posting negative comments from dummy/fake social accounts have eventually helped them to pen down their biggest competitors.

So, now if this is the problem statement, biggest question is…

What Can Be The Solution?

One simple solution is to remain true to your promises. What it means is that do not brag about things that you do not provide. Stay relevant about your services and features in your products, highlight things that you provide, never mention anything that is potentially not present in your services or products.

By staying truthful to your promises, your competitors will never have any chance to just brag as in that case you will have proof to prove them wrong.

Another thing that can be adopted here is that, you can add a complain area in your website where your customers can provide complains and grievance. But this complain area, should be taken as a serious feedback by company and no stone should be left unturned to resolve their grievance. Remember, troubled customer is a great business opportunity as this gives us new ideas to expand and improvise the business services.

So, what I wanted to convey here was that when planning a strategy to use Online marketing for your business, there is a need to look on the other factor also. There is a need to plan a strategy to tackle with negative publicity, genuine or non-genuine, but it should be pre-planned, so that you can succeed to leave a positive impact on your audience.

Search Engine Optimization: 6 Golden Rules for Staying Up To Date with SEO!

How to stay up to date with SEo changes

One thing that SEOs have come to learn, howbeit, the hard way, is that you can’t become complacent when it comes to SEO. This is because the best practice in search engine optimization is always changing. You just can’t learn about SEO, and then you’re done forever. A big NO!

If you want to stay up to date and keep your website up to date too, it needs to be something you keep an eye on. You should be watching the changes and trends in search engine optimization so that you always have your finger on the pulse of the industry.

Unfortunately, doing so can be easier said than done. But don’t worry. In this post you will learn a few simple methods that will help you make sure you don’t get left behind.

How to Stay Up To Date with SEO Changes

1. Subscribe to Blogs

One of the best ways to stay up to date with everything that’s happening is to learn from the experts. These people know what they’re talking about, and the best ones have blogs you can follow. They won’t always be right all the time, so don’t take their word as gospel. But subscribe to their blogs to keep up with the latest news and opinions.

2. Get On Twitter

If you’re not already on Twitter, you need to get on there right now. All those experts with blogs are on Twitter too, and they use it to say plenty that’s not in their blog posts. Create a stream of all your favorite SEO experts to see what they’re saying. Twitter allows you to have conversations too, so you can even ask them questions.

3. Go Straight to Google

If you want to know how Google works, asking Google seems like a sensible idea. Stay up to date with Google Webmaster Tools if you want to know how your site is performing. It will also give you lots of information on SEO and tell you how the search engine crawls your site to rank it in searches.

4. Make Time

Subscribing to blogs and following people on Twitter is no use if you have no time to learn. Make sure you set aside half an hour each day or a couple of hours a week just to read new information. Just a few minutes a day could help you stay on top of things and make sure you don’t miss any significant changes.

5. Hire an SEO Service

Just learning about what’s happening in the SEO world isn’t enough. You need to use the information too. If you don’t have time to do everything yourself, an SEO agency is your best bet. Most business owners can’t do it all themselves, so they need some help. You should still keep up with trends and changes, however.

6. Put Knowledge Into Practice

Without an SEO company to help you, it’s up to you to keep your website updated. Use everything you learn to keep your website changing and prepare for any changes that could affect its rankings. You should be pruning your site all the time to keep it moving so that it doesn’t remain static and fall out of date

Conclusion

It takes time and effort to keep up with changes in the world of search engine optimization. If you want to stay knowledgeable about it, don’t drop the ball and neglect your reading. Keep at it and you will see the benefits in your website performance.

How To Effectively Use A Blog To Boost Your Home Based Business Success!

So you have dreams of having a successful home based online business, right? And to actualize your dreams you have setup your business site and you’re passionately working on your promotional strategies while looking forward to hordes of traffic flooding your site, right?

But, hold it for a moment. How about a blog, did you add a blog to your home business website? You did? Oh, that’s great!

Fact is if you’re running an online business and you do not have a blog added to your website then you are like a swimmer is swimming against the current! No matter what you may have heard before now, simply setting up an ecommerce website does not guarantee that you will have clients and customers standing in line for your offers. You will need to use different strategies to drive enough traffic to guarantee your business success. This is one reason why you need to add a blog to your home business site because it’s simply an incredible online marketing tool right now.

Now, despite the many gains of adding a blog to your home based business site, there is a big problem faced by those who decide to add a blog to their business sites. This problem is that of concentrating more efforts on updating the blog to the detriment of their business!

Online business marketing strategies

This is really a big problem. For example, in running your blog you will need to constantly write highly engaging content, read and reply to readers’ comments, visit other blogs and post comments, be on the social media sites to connect with other bloggers, join blogging communities to connect with others, etc.

While all of these are necessary, the unfortunate thing is that you have just enough time to do all of these and also focus on other areas of running your home based business, especially if you are a solopreneur. And this has resulted in many abandoning their main businesses and becoming “emergency bloggers” without any real goal for their blogs! This is really pathetic and I’m sure you don’t want to be in this situation.

In this post I want to offer you a few tips on how you can effectively incorporate a blog into your business website without endangering your main business. Used well, these tips will definitely help you gain an edge over your competitors who are not blogging.

So, if you are ready, let’s boost your website success with these business blogging tips!

1. Determine Your Business Objectives

Once you’re convinced of the potentials of a blog the first thing you need to take care of before starting that blog is to determine your business objectives and how a blog will be of help in achieving those objectives.

This is definitely important because the key to having a successful blog as a business owner is keeping your goals clear and concrete at every step of your blogging adventure. It can be all too easy to get sidetracked, especially if you are just learning about the exciting possibilities of blogging technology. But if you want your blog to succeed you need to stay focused.

Write up a plan for how often you will update your business blog; how you will promote the blog, how you will retain your blog readership, and of course other areas of your blogging adventure. Once you have these set out, you must ensure that you stick to this plan in everything you do.

2. Get a Good Blog Design

When you use a free blog platform like blogger.com you’re provided with pre-designed templates. But it is a wise thing to go for paid blog services like wordpress.org if you truly want the benefits of a business blog. Using a free service takes the control of your blog from you. In fact, the blog is not yours as the hosting service can pull it down at any time. But if you opt for paid blog service (my advice is go for wordpress.org), you’ll need to get a good designer to design and layout your blog to match your company’s identity and needs.

3. Choose Your Blog Topics with Care

Of course, this should not be a problem since you’ve determined your business and blogging objectives in the first place. You just need to have a line-up of topics you want for your blogs but be sure they are in consonance with your business objectives. Strive to be consistent with your topic all the time. That does not mean you shouldn’t blog about general and unrelated topics that have broad appeal. This could sometimes make your blog more popular. But remember, your blog is there not on its own but a tool for marketing your business.

4. Understand the Do’s And Don’ts of Blogging

There are several blogs out there dedicated to teaching people the dos and don’ts of blogging. Please do READ them! Also include in your reading, blogs that are consumer-based in order to give you ideas on running your business blog. Remember that legal issues are sometimes involved in blogging; it is safer to include disclaimers and limitations of liabilities. Create blogging policies and schedule updates regularly.

5. Strive To Hold On To Your Readers

Update your content regularly and keep it relevant and fresh. Avoid outright marketing on your blog or you will shy away your readers. Learn how to make your business blog pull in your readers without necessary sounding like a salesman. In all you do always reinforce your company’s core values.

6. Use the Right Methods to Promote Your Business Blog

Actively promote your business blog by submitting your blogs to blog search sites and directories. Your blog is like a setup booth in the biggest trade show on earth today. Marketing possibilities are just around the corner waiting to strike your sale scales up. Be sure that your blog contain valuable and exclusive information and ensure that it is constantly updated to keep readers popping in.

Use effective keyword phrases to generate high ranking status in the SERPs. In this way, you have better chances of people finding your business website through your blog. Remember more traffic means more potential sales.

7. Listen to Your Readers

Regularly monitor your blog traffic through implementing good stats and monitoring tools like Google Analytics. Read readers’ comments, measure your results by what they are saying and if necessary make the needed adjustments. First impressions matters and your blog design plays an important factor here. You can always play with your blog design but remember that whatever design you decides on agree with your company’s identity.

Conclusion

Using a blog to promote your home based business is not different in most ways from making money blogging. However, business blogging has its own unique pitfalls. If you must successfully include a blog in your home business marketing strategy ensure that you have a clear indication of what you want. Put the above tips into use and never forget that your business blog is simply a marketing tool for your home business website.

Ranking #354 in the SERPs and Still Driving Traffic? Explanations Please!

search engine optimization questionsHi everyone. Welcome to yet another insightful time on our Community Time-Out.

Today we will be discussing yet another very interesting topic. As usual, I trust you would share with us your insights on this subject matter and we all would come out with something new!

Search Engine Optimization Rule #1 Questioned?

Our subject for discussion today has to do with search engine optimization. As we all know, the purpose of SEO is to get our webpages not just on the first page of the SERPs but if possible, rank at #1!

However, in the past few weeks I’ve had cause to ask a few questions.

Now, I’m an SEO enthusiast and very passionate about optimizing every post that I write. In fact, I’m such an ardent believer in search engine optimization that my content writing service focuses mainly on SEO web content writing and not just any type of marketing content!

Also, because of my interest in SEO, I have a few programs for monitoring my blogs’ SEO stats. And, I can authoritatively report that this blog is doing great on the search engines with about 55% of the blog’s traffic coming from the search engines.

Specifically, here is a graphic from a program I’m using to monitor the SEO strength of the blog with a few results from specific pages:

search engine results graphic

And here is another one:

search traffic results

Again, that is impressive, right? But now take a look at this one, please note carefully the page ranking at #354!

Google search results graphic

Please for better viewing, click on the images to enlarge.

Now, can you notice that apart from the ones ranking on the first pages, traffic is also coming from others, like this one ranking far down the SERPs at #354?

My concerned in this discussion is really these ones ranking far below in the SERPs.

Ok, let’s look again at the #1 rule of search engine optimization:

SEO Rule #1 If you want to drive traffic from the search engines you must rank on the first page or better still, at #1 else no one will found your site and therefore there will be no traffic!

You have heard this so many times, right? Of course, everything I have ever done in the name of SEO had been driven by that rule!

But now, from the results shown above, a few questions have been on my mind. These are:

1.    Do you really need to rank ONLY on page 1 to drive traffic from the search engines?

2. What must have prompted these searchers to abandon the first, the second, the third and even the tenth pages of the SERPs and go looking for and clicking on a link in the 354th position?

3. What lesson can this really teach us about optimizing our webpages for the search engines? Or, what insight do we gain from this?

After pondering on this for some time now, I’ve decided to bring it out for us to discuss on this platform today believing that someone will have some insights that will help us all.

And so, permit me to step aside here while you make your contributions. Post your responses and insights, or any other question you may have from the results above, in your comments below. So, let the discussion begin!

WordPress SEO Keyword Myth Debunked

[This is Part 3 of our WordPress SEO Tutorials. Ensure you read the past issues as to get a bigger picture of what we’ve covered so far.]

This article was initially intended to cover wordpress seo keyword research. Unfortunately, like a broken record, I’ve continued to read blogs where the blogger tries to downplay the importance of using keywords/phrases in your content for seo purposes.

Since my intention in this tutorial is to make clear the what, the why and the how of WordPress blog seo, I did decided to write this article to show why you must not overlook the importance of keywords if you want some organic seo rankings.

SEO, Keywords and Creating Content for Your Human Readers!

Tips for small business collaboration

Ever heard the phrase: “Content Is King?” You definitely have!

What about bloggers who, based on that phrase, argues a blogger does not need to concern him/herself with researching and optimizing blog content for keywords?  You know, they want you to simply concentrate on creating good content and allow the search engines decide where to rank your content.

Read things like that, right?

Indeed, it’s clear that those who consider keyword research as a waste of time have in mind the years when black-hat internet marketers gamed the search engines through keyword stuffing.

But frankly that is not what SEO keyword use is about. It’s clear that the search engines have evolved over the years and trying to game them with keyword stuffing would only produce negative effects.

In fact, with the recent Google Panda update, Google now considers human activity on your site as a crucial element for ranking any site. And what will produce this human activity?  The quality of your content!

But does that mean implementing keywords for search engine optimization purpose in your content is a waste of time?

I’m sure you’ve used the search engines to search for information before. What did you do when you searched for that information? Did you simply entered what came to your mind into the search box? Did you not first considered the information you wanted and then entered a phrase which you thought would best describe what you wanted?

Now what you entered is nothing but keywords or better still keyword phrases. This is what all of us do when we use the search engines. When we search for information on the search engines we do so with keyword phrases.  Your content must therefore be able to convince the search engines that it matches the words that people are actually searching for.

This is what effective blog SEO is all about! You should be able to tell the search engines in your content what it’s supposed to rank for! Without that every other thing you would have done to optimize your content would be lost.

This position was made clear in my previous article on how to strategically use WordPress plugins to enhance your blog’s SEO:

“Your blog’s title, description meta tag, content, keyword density and links form the essential SEO elements which the search engine spiders focus on when they crawl your blog. It is the information they gather from these elements that they use when they index your blog.

“Whenever someone request information through a search, the search engines check the keyword phrases used against the information indexed and returns the pages that best suit those keyword phrases. Because of this it’s important that you focus on these elements whatever the niche you’re targeting.”

Blog SEO, Keyword Phrases in Content – An Experiment!

To put what I have said so far to the test and to show that using keyword phrases in your content is very important, I did a little experiment while putting this article together.

I Googled the phrase: “wordpress seo strategy” (without the quotes) and here is what Google returned:

The graphic above shows the top 5 results for the keyword phrase “wordpress seo strategy”.

Of the 3,760,000 pages Google believes are optimized for that phrase my article on laying the right foundation for your blog’s seo strategy rank #5! And remember this article was written just a few days ago as Part 1 of this wordpress seo series!

Now do you think Google is wrong about this result? Did Google simply and randomly picked the pages shown in that graphic?

Alright, let’s take a look at what Yahoo! and MSN says,

For Yahoo!:

And, for MSN:

Ok, Yahoo! returned 296,000 and MSN 513,000 pages against Google’s 3,760,000. But in each of these results, my wordpress seo article rank #5 for Google, #5 for Yahoo! and #4 for MSN!

Surprised? You shouldn’t be! Of course I’ll be talking about the simple strategy used in subsequent articles when we’ll be talking about keyword research and content creation. But for now to let you know the importance of using your keywords right, I want you to take another look at those results.

Can you notice that one common thing with all of the pages returned is that the phrase “wordpress seo strategy” appeared bold in all?

That is the search engines’ way of assuring you that the information you searched for is what they have given to you! Seeing those keyword phrases is an assurance  that you are not getting SERPs that talk about what you’re looking for.

Still not convinced that keywords and implementing the right keyword phrases in your content is very important? Still want to believe some “guru” blogger with a list of 10,000+ subscribers who says you don’t need keyword research to drive traffic to your blog?

Ok, that is understandable. He’s a “guru” while I’m not! 🙂

But don’t be deceived. If you don’t have that type of list that brings traffic to your blog, you’d better make the search engines your best friends. And how you can do that is by giving them what they want and they would love you for it!

Keyword Research Empowers You To Create Just The Right Content!

Before I round off this article, let me quickly say that what we have said in this article is the basis of seo keyword research.  Doing a seo keyword research gives you the power to peep into the mind of your prospects so that you can know ahead of time what they really want. With this knowledge you’ll be able to create the type of content that they want to read.

It’s like creating a product. You don’t want to first, create a product and then go looking for those who want that product.

On the contrary, the wise thing is first, run a market research with the mind of knowing what the market wants. With this knowledge you can then create a product your target market would be eager to pay for!

So keyword research gives you the scientific knowledge that removes guess work from your content creation. With this knowledge you can strategically write your content with the keyword phrases “sprinkled” in to help the search engines determine where to place it in the SERPs.

Over to you: Do you consider optimizing your content with keywords as an important element in seo? Do you carry out keyword research when creating your blog content? Share your views with us in the comments below.

Hey, am I asking too much if I request you share this with your friends? Ok, go on and do just that. 🙂

How to Lay a Solid Foundation For Your WordPress SEO Strategy

[As I mentioned a few days I’m starting a series on WordPress SEO. This is the first in the seriess.  I encourage you to signup for our free updates so that you do not miss this series. I bet you don’t want to. So let’s begin…]

I truly love the analogy of a building when it comes to building a blog.  Your blog as your online storefront must be built on the right foundation else every thing you will be in vain. For this reason I want to start this WordPress SEO series by discussing how you can lay a solid foundation for your blog’s Search Engine Optimization strategy.

But what has a foundation got to do with blogging, anyway?

Good question.

As a blogger it’s certain that you passionately believe that the search engines love blogs for various reasons. But unfortunately, WordPress blogs suck SEO-wise when used with the default settings! That is why I want to start this series discussing a few ways you can ensure that your optimization efforts produce the right results.

How to Design an Effective Squeeze Page

The Essence of Blog Search Engine Optimization

First, I think it is proper to take note of why you should optimize your wordpress blogs for the search engines.

For one, optimizing your blog for the search engines is one of the most important strategies you can employ to drive organic (free) traffic to your blog. As I’ve mentioned before, organic traffic is the crème de la crème of traffic because it’s natural and targeted. But before the search engines can send you organic traffic they will need to identify specific keyword phrases that are relevant to your blog.  And it’s SEO that will help you strategically put the relevant keywords phrases on your blog.

But as I’ve said wordpress seo sucks since they are not built to rank high on the search engines by default! They need a little “assistance” from you to do that! And so a little tweaking is needed to put your target keyword phrases in your blog’s home title and in every page.

I know you were expecting a lesson on keyword research and content creation snce we are talking about seo. Never worry, that will definitely come. But the truth is, that’s just part of the game. To ensure that the effort you put into your keyword research and content creation is not in vain you must first ensure that your wordpress blog is laid on the right SEO foundation. And that’s what we want to do in this article.

2 Simple But Powerful Steps To Fortifying Your WordPress Blog against SEO Leaks!

At the home-front there are some very simply tweaks you can apply as to ensure that your wordpress blog is maximized for the search engines. There are actually three basic things you’ll need to do here. These are:

1. Use A SEO WordPress Theme

Presently WordPress has over 1,400 free themes in its theme directory. Besides these, there are thousands of other paid themes. Unfortunately not all of these themes are optimized for the search engines. In fact many of them have too many codes that may not only slow down your blog but hamper the search engines crawling your blog correctly. This is not good for search engine optimization. So if you do not know much about optimizing your blog or you simply don’t want too much work optimizing your blog, the first thing you should do is to get a SEO wordpress theme for your blog. PrimePress is a free wordpress theme that you may want to consider if you are short on the cash and wants a free optimized wordpress theme.

However, if you want something more professional and that comes with more optimized features, then you may want to go for the Genesis WordPress theme [affiliate link ].  Genesis is a Framework theme which means it comes with child themes that empowers you to quickly and easily build incredible websites with WordPress. Whether you’re a novice or advanced developer, Genesis will give you the secure and search-engine-optimized foundation for building any WordPress blog.

You may have heard many bloggers speak good of the Thesis theme but that’s if you love designer-filled tweaks. But if you’re not a designer but want something that can give you not only the right design but also the right search engine optimized features then Genesis is the right choice.

2. Optimize Your WordPress Default Settings

As mentioned earlier by default WordPress blogs are deficient when it comes to search engine optimization. For example the search engines do not like long url strings and in ranking websites/blogs they give more regard to websites/blogs that use their relevant keyword phrases in the url.  Unfortunately wordpress default settings violate these rules! To give your wordpress blog some goodwill in the sight of the search engines therefore you simply need to give it a little “touch up.”
Here are two things you should do:

a. Change The Default Permalinks:

WordPress actually have a simply way of overcoming the deficiency of not including, in each blog page, the relevant keyword phrase. To fix this:

Go to Settings >> Permalinks

Then *Select Custom Structure, and put

/%postname%/

Simply doing this is enough though some bloggers will advocate adding the categories like:

/%category%/%postname%/

 b. Include A Robot.Txt File

Another simple but very important seo tactic that wordpress, by default, has overlooked is the inclusion of a robot.txt file. The robot.txt file simply tells the search engines how to treat your blog, what parts to spider and what parts to index. Though it seems to be a simple thing, but it does help your blog’s rankings. So before you do anything about keyword research and creating your blog content, create a robot.txt file and upload it to your blog’s root directory. Even if your blog is already up and running but you have not uploaded a robot.txt file, you should do it right away.

To create a robot.txt file, right click anywhere on your desk top and create a new text document. Name this document robots.txt and enter the following inside it:

User-agent:*

Disallow:

Now upload it to the root directory of your blog so that it can be located at:

=> http://www.yourdomain.com/robots.txt

For more details about robot.txt files go to http://www.robotstxt.org

That’s about it for now. Of course, there are other things you need in order to structure your wordpress blog very well for the search engines but we will discuss those when we talk about how you can give your wordpress blog some unfair advantage with the search engines in our next article. Right now make sure you put these few tips into use.

Not laying this foundation for your wordpress blog will only make your seo efforts appear like someone attempting to chop down a tree with a blunt cutlass! 🙂

So over to you: Have you done anything to correct your wordpress blog’s default settings? Do you know any reason why the wordpress team have continued to use these default settings even when they know that they are not good for the search engines?

Little Known Cornerstones For Longlasting Online Business Success!

In the first part of this article I presented just one of the cornerstones for building an enduring and successful online business – having a right and healthy mindset. In this second and concluding part I want to present you with the remaining 3 cornerstones. I do hope you will find these ones as helpful as you did the first.

But I know many will want to ask why the much interest in these cornerstones?

My answer to that is because building a business is like building a house. Every building engineer knows the importance of a solid foundation to a building. In fact, the foundation, to a great extent, determines the building structure. The higher the building is expected to be, the deeper the foundation!

This is very much the same when building a business. If you expect something that will stand the test of time then laying the right foundation is a must. That is why you must take seriously these 4 cornerstones we are discussing.

Having said that, let’s now take a look at the remaining cornerstones that are necessary to build a successful business online.

2. Use the Power of Leverage

If you’ve been online for a while you will readily note that there are different business models you can choose from when building a business online. All of these models have their own pros and cons.  And of course, some are more successful than others.

However, whatever the model you decide to choose, you mustn’t forget to employ all of the power that the internet offers to make your online business successful. No stone should be left unturned. Learn to leverage search engine optimization (seo). Proper leveraging of seo will quickly get your business blog/website indexed by the search engines. Leveraging seo includes proper structuring of your site, using the right keywords in the right places, implementing the right linking structure both on-site and off-site and providing sticky content that will appeal to both the search engines and your human visitors.

Another area of leveraging the internet is using online social media to build a brand for yourself, your website and your products.  Build your reputation and credibility using Private Label Rights (PLR) products. These give you the power to create your own products with ease. You can easily do some re-writing, change the name  and put your own  and then give them away to reap the gains of viral marketing with ease.

Other areas include the use of software programs to free up your time while building your business. Doing this will enable you work for less but achieve much. For example, you can use auto-responders to automate your operations. Tracking tools will help you better understand what’s happening in your business so that you can take better informed decisions that will drive your business on the right lane.

3. Build the Right Relationships

Ever heard the saying: “It is not What you know, but Who you know that counts”? Indeed that may be an old saying but it is nevertheless true when it comes to building your online business. The cornerstone of good solid relationships mustn’t be toyed with. It should be one of your top priorities.

In our everyday life, building social relationships help us insert ourselves into social situations which gives us the opportunity to come in contact with people who have interests that are similar to or complimentary to our own.

The same happens when we establish business relationships. With the right business relationships you can insert yourself into business situations where you will meet others who have businesses that are similar to or complimentary to your own business. Attending real brick and mortar business seminars and online teleseminars and webinars, will help you build friendly business relationships with not only your peers but also with those who are in position to help you.

4. Find a Capable Mentor

It isn’t likely that there is a more valuable asset that a new netrepreneur can have than a good and capable mentor. Someone who has already made all of the mistakes can help you avoid making all of the mistakes yourself.

They have the wisdom that comes from experience. And with this they can easily point out pitfalls to help direct you toward the better of choices.

But why, you may ask, would anyone who has made it want to take their time to help a newbie succeed?

Of course they do it for various reasons. But the most common one is because they desire to see what they know outlive them. And this they do by teaching what they already know to other up and coming netrepreneurs. However most of these successful internet marketers wouldn’t want to waste their time on anyone who has not already worked hard to lay the first three corner stones themselves. These potential mentors are looking for new comers who show that they have a right and healthy mindset, who are working hard at leveraging and who are well aware of how important it is to know all the players and the RIGHT people.

In short, the new comer most likely to get a mentor is one who is already working hard and helping himself and not looking for someone who can just smooth the way for him. So you must learn to work your online business implementing the first 3 cornerstones we have mentioned above.

Conclusion: I don’t know about you but right from the start of my online business journey what has always been in my mind is to build a business that will not just take advantage of the present opportunity but also will stand the test of time. And this is why every action I take in this business is to build on this foundation secured on these 4 cornerstones. You too can decide the direction of your online business. What you need is setting up the right foundation for your online business by getting a right and healthy mindset, using the right leveraging tools, building the right business relationships and working on getting the right mentor(s).
