Pinterest Marketing Strategies for Online Business Success

With the growth of social media sites like Pinterest, Instagram, and the rest, many businesses are now devoting more time and resources to promoting their wares on the sites. Unfortunately, as expected not many of these business owners understand how to effectively use these sites.

As we already know, social media sites are not the proper place for direct selling. Using any social media site as a sales platform is a guaranteed formula for failure, right from day one. This is why if you want to succeed with Pinterest marketing you must aim at knowing how Pinterest works.

But that is really not enough…

Beyond that you should also establish a clear link between your Pinterest account and your blog or website. You must also be able to conveniently pin photos to your account even if you are not tied to a desk and with access to your computer or laptop.

Pinterest marketing tips

Some Useful Tips For Succeeding With Pinterest Marketing

1. Have Pinterest Buttons On Display On All Your Websites And Blogs

Pinterest itself has several free buttons that you can use. They already come with the necessary HTML codes to make embedding hassle-free. You should also check with your content management system or CMS provider if they have options for including Pinterest buttons with every blog post you upload. If not that then maybe there are widgets or tools related to Pinterest, which you can host on your blog or site.

2. Download Pinterest Applications In Your Site

Pinterest also has its own official mobile application that you can download and use for free. However, there are also a number of paid applications, which are designed to make pinning quick and easy even when you are using a mobile device.

One application, for instance, allows you to pin photos straight from your mobile device’s browser – something that the official Pinterest app actually can’t do at the moment.

3. Make A List Of Possible Pins You Can Use

Photos, which immediately capture your attention are definitely worth pinning – maybe not now but sometime in the future for sure. You just need to come with a great article or blog post to link such photos to your business. Be sure to list the sites where you’ve seen such photos. Give yourself some time, and they’ll prove handy to your business sooner or later.

4. Have A Camera With You At All Times

The best photos to pin are those that you have taken yourself. As the original source of such photos, your link will then be used every time your photo is pinned and repinned by other Pinterest users. As such, you should not let any opportunity for taking beautiful photos go to waste. Have a camera with you at all times – preferably one with an excellent range of features that include HD resolution, panorama sweeps, options for editing, and filtering effects.

In most cases, the cameras of high-end smartphones would already suffice. It’s actually better if you use a camera phone since this will automatically give you access to the Internet and have it pinned to your board in no time.

5. Subscribe To A Mobile Internet Service

Speaking of Internet access, that’s yet another thing you should have at all times as well. A mobile Internet service will not only enable you to monitor your online business effectively, but it can also make sure that you will be one of the first to pin photos of events that you may be covering with live blogging. With the help of some handy-dandy applications, live blogging and pinning can be easily performed with just a smartphone or tablet.

Hopefully, these tips should be enough to equip your business with all the necessary tools and resources for maximizing the marketing opportunities offered by Pinterest.

Is Google PageRank Back to Relevance?

Like I said in a previous post, 2013 is definitely a year of surprises from Google as it does appear that Google is in a rush to reposition its properties for the new web!

But if you think we have seen the last of such surprises then wait for this…

… after about 10 months of silence, Google has again updated its Toolbar PageRank on December 6, 2013!

But why is this a thing of surprise?

Simply because it is against many webmasters’ belief.  Many have already concluded that the Toolbar PageRank is dead and therefore not relevant as far as SEO is concerned.

Even Matt Cutts, Google’s head of search spam, would definitely be surprised also because he was the one who fueled this belief!

Here’s what Matt said about the Toolbar PageRank some time ago:

The question right now is:

… if, after all the new algorithm updates and changes and after about 10 months of inaction on the PageRank toolbar, if Google has decided to again update the toolbar PageRank can we now say that PageRank is not dead after all?

Does it mean that those webmasters who went to town preaching that PageRank is no more relevant for search engine optimization underestimated Google’s unpredictable nature?

We only need to look at what Google is doing right now to understand the direction that Google is heading with this update.

I personally believe that those brains at Google, realizing that they have been able to clean up the web with all the Panda and Penguin updates and of course the introduction of their whole new search engine – Hummingbird, they now want to also “shakeup” their “filling cabinets” so as to put everyone where they belong.

Do not forget that every websites 0ut there was still holding onto the PageRank which they had at the start of the year. But considering the fact that most of these sites have “lost favor” with Google because they have been hit by the different updates and changes during the year, updating the toolbar PageRank at this time is simply a way  of rearranging their positions in Google’s reckoning!

So, to me this update is simply putting everyone in their right places!

Will This Continue In The Coming Year?

I cannot but say it again that we must be prepared for more surprises from Google in 2014. They may have tried to push so much surprises at us this year, but it is definite that 2014 will see more.

Besides, it is clear that if Google is in “rush” to put out so many things into the market this year, it stands to reason that they have some big plan for the coming years!

For now, we can deduce that Google still value back links as a ranking factor.  This PageRank update makes that clear since PageRank is about nothing but links. But where Google is going will only be quite clear in the coming months.

Google +Posts Ads: Giving Brands the Social Power

Google.com has once again showed that 2013 is indeed a year of change and innovation. From the various Panda and Penguin updates to the launch of a completely new ranking algorithm and of course, the issue of encrypting search results, Google has shown that it is an entity on a mission! Right now, Google is taking that mission to another level by introducing a whole new twist to social media advertising.

Just some hours ago, Google announced the introduction of what it has chosen to call +Posts adsan advertising opportunity for brands to turn their Google+ posts into ads which will be displayed across the Google Display Network (GDN). According to Google,

“+Post ads let you turn your Google+ posts into engagement ads on the Google Display Network. People can join a Hangout On Air, add a comment, follow your brand, or give a +1, right from the ad.”

+Post ads - The all new Google advertising game!

For now, Google is testing this new innovation using a few chosen brands like Toyota USA, Cadbury UK and RITZ crackers.

This is really a new twist to social media advertising because unlike what we have seen on other social media sites, +Post ads will not be shown on the Google+ platform (Google’s social media site) but rather displayed across all its network which reaches to somewhere around 2 million sites!

Is This Taking the Rivalry between Google and Facebook to another Level?

Without trying to sound antagonistic, it is very clear that the launch of +Post ads is indeed another way of Google flexing its advertising muscles against other social media sites, especially Facebook.

In his post announcing +Posts ads, Eran Arkin, Google’s Social Ads Product Manager, said:

“+Post ads allow a brand to take a piece of their public Google+ content, like a photo, video or even a Hangout, and with a few clicks, turn it into a display ad that can run across the more than 2 million sites in the Google Display Network. This lets brands think of the entire web as their social stream.”

The statement, “…lets brands think of the entire web as their social stream” is definitely an indirect way of saying that as a brand you don’t have to limit yourself to just one social platform like others are doing but have the entire web as your platform. Of course, that is a way of luring more brands to jump in to the program!

For example in a video posted by Eran Arkin, he revealed how Toyota is using +Post ads to drive consideration for its newly launched Corolla. Arkin also claimed that the brands testing this new innovation are already seeing increased click-through and expansion rates of up to 50% higher than the industry average for rich media ads!

Did I Saw This Coming?

I must say that even when I did not see the whole picture of what Google had up its sleeves from the beginning, I can say I had an inkling that Google was going to do something in this direction at the time Google+ launched.

Back in 2011 when Google plus entered the market and many were comparing it to Facebook pitching Facebook’s big numbers against Google+, I did a post where I said,

“Facebook is not just competing with Google+ but with Google.com who has proved in its own merit that it is an online colossus.

So the question is not about Google+ displacing Facebook from the social networking game but Google.com putting all of its online resources into playing the game and coming out on the top!

You can read that post here.

Since then we have seen a whole lot of new things from the stables of Google aimed at putting all of its online resources to play the game. +Post ads is just another such move!

+Post Ads Is Actually A Two-Edged Sword!

As expected, many are already whining on why Google should not show the +Post ads on their social media platform – Google plus – even when the ads are initiated there.

But it is clear that this is definitely a tactical move. We mustn’t forget that at a time when many users had issues with Facebook concerning what to share with friends, acquaintances and family members, Google came up with the idea of Google+ Circles.

Right now, reports indicate that many youngsters are abandoning Facebook while elderly ones are complaining about the volume of ads they have to contend with on the site. So Google taking the decision not to display +Post ads on the Google+ platform but on its advertising network is definitely a good decision, business-wise!

RECOMMENDED: Business Lessons You Can Learn from Google’s Company Philosophy!
Beyond that +Post ads could really be a way of Google bringing more brands to using the Google+ social media platform while at the same time building its advertising business. And if that is the case, then this is really an innovative move on the part of Google!

How are Facebook and others going to react to this move? We only need to wait to see that in 2014!

But I’ll love to know what your reaction is. Give your views on these +Post ads in your comment below.

The Most Effective Ecommerce SEO Solution for Your Money Sites

Since the launch of Google’s Panda and Penguin updates in the recent past few months, many e-commerce sites have been groaning in pains because of the hard knocks they received from the algorithm changes. Besides, many are right now spending more money to correct the offending ecommerce SEO tactics that got them into this mess.

observing the havoc on many ecommerce and money sites, one would be tempted to ask, did Google purposely launched its Panda updates to pull down ecommerce sites or is it just coincident that ecommerce sites were that badly affected?

Ecommerce SEO Unfortunately, many erroneously actually think that is the case. However, to answer that question we must take a good look at how ecommerce sites did SEO before the panda updates. Essentially what many did was simply to hire the services of an SEO consulting firm or SEO Company to:

1. Build thousands of backlinks from wherever possible without any regard to quality or where these links came from.

2. Research hundreds of keywords and stuff these in their thin content pages and in anchor texts. Many actually fell foul of Google’s “exact match domain” anchor text rule.

3. Auto-build hundreds and thousands of spam blogs and other Web 2.0 sites that have no real value in themselves.

4. Engage in RSS and blog comments spamming in a bid to increase the volume of back links to their sites.

These and many other unwholesome tactics were carried out in order to please Google’s search machine without any regard to the real people who visits those sites. Worst still, by nature ecommerce sites are thin on content and so, while their blackhat SEO tactics got the attention of the search machines, the sites themselves did nothing in the area of offering valuable content to the users. And so, when these updates came along they simply fell like a pack of cards!

How to Put In Place an Effective Panda-Proof Ecommerce SEO

It is a good thing that many ecommerce sites are trying to correct their earlier mistakes. However, it’s more important to ensure that this unpleasant situation does not happen again. To this end, ecommerce sites should have in place a strategic ecommerce SEO plan devoid of the unwholesome blackhat tactics that have brought them nothing but horror.

Your money (ecommerce) sites are too valuable to be toiled with. There’s no doubt, optimizing your money sites for the search engines remain the only guaranteed way your products can be found by relevant customers. But you need the right SEO strategy to do that.

The following is a strategic ecommerce SEO solution that will help you drive your brand loyalty, boost your brand exposure and increase your profitability over time!

SEO tips for ecommerce sites1. Avoid Duplicate Content – There is no doubt that quality and valuable web content has continued to be the essential element if you want to get on top of Google’s search result pages. If you desire to boost your organic search rankings you must deal with this problem of duplicate content. One simple way of doing this is to never copy-paste product descriptions from the product manufacturers. Doing so will be putting you up against the manufacturer’s site and you will be the one to loss out.

2. Build Out Thin Content – It is true that the problem of many sites in the new SEO dispensation is that of quality content. But for ecommerce sites the problem is both quality and quantity. This is because ecommerce sites are by nature heavy on graphics but light on content. It is important therefore that you find some creative ways to build out the thin content on product descriptions since this is the main areas where ecommerce sites’ contents are mostly found. Use quality product descriptions that add value to each page and as pointed out in #1 above, make this unique. You can hire professional web content writers to help you do this.

3. Know Your Customers And What They Want – It is a fact that your ecommerce site is about you and what you’re offering but the truth is, it is not for you but for your customers. It is important therefore to truly understand your target audience so that you can better create content that will engage them. Instead of thinking of your customers as some generic group of prospects, try as much as possible to analyze, segment and personalize the ways you engage with your ecommerce site buyers.

4. Diversify Your Link Profile – Before the Google Panda and Penguin Updates, ecommerce sites depended heavily on links to boost their search rankings. Unfortunately, this has become a no go area as the recent Google algorithm changes were launched to root out ‘over-optimized’ sites. Therefore, to escape the Panda and Penguin hammers, ecommerce sites should aim for natural link profiles. This demands driving relevant backlinks from different sources and using different anchor texts. The best way to do this is to engage in content marketing, infographic marketing, social media, press release, etc.

5. Build Relationships And Not Just Links – Ecommerce sites that want to overcome the Panda and Penguin blues should focus on relationship building. Design marketing strategies that will help you build strong authority in your niche which will in turn boost your brand awareness. Content marketing and social media interactions will both naturally build your brand and expand your link profile. Besides, adding a blog to your ecommerce site will be of great advantage.

A Financial Advisors’ Guide to Protection When Using Social Media!

Because of the economic downfall that America faced during the previous years, consumers have felt the need to consult financial advisors to help them recover from their deteriorating finances. Some financial advisors have offered their professional services using the “old way” or on a case-to-case basis. However, because of the advancements in communication technology, a lot of ways and means have been developed to connect with people. With all these advancements, where are the financial advisors placed?

Social media is the newest “it” and undoubtedly will remain being “it” for a long, long time. Some financial advisors have seen the potential of social networking sites and created their own accounts. Then aFinancial Advisors' Guide to Social Media Protectiongain, it appears that after creating their accounts they suddenly encounter a big question mark in terms of how to use social media effectively without bringing themselves closer to the threat of identity theft and online credit scams.

With the frequency of data breach rising, the question remains: How can financial advisors protect themselves when using social media? Fortunately, here are some tips that may help out in answering that question.

Share Unique but Relevant Content Using Trusted Third-Party Sources

It is always advisable to share one’s own content in social networking sites in order to reel in potential clients. However, it is not a good idea to share personal information for everyone to see. That is why some of the best financial advisers share their content through personal blogs and landing pages from trusted third-party sources.

By blogging, you can share your ideas and apply your knowledge to attract clients without having to share too much personal data. However, make sure that you put in educational or insightful data. Such will not be viewed as overly promotional as consumers are looking for more personalized content.

You can also use social networking sites by sharing your unique value messages. Sharing your values and belief systems through tweets or status messages is a good way of developing your own set of guiding principles for your potential clients to know. On the plus side, these messages save you time and add more personal touches to your content without having to risk your personal information.

Choose the Right Social Networking Sites

There are a lot of social networking sites out there. You may use them to your advantage but be careful as not all of them share a particularly safe way of securing their database. Before creating your accounts, look for the best social networking sites first. Choose the ones with the best security features in order to minimize the possibility of a stolen identity online. This is aside from considering other factors such as population of members and target populations.

Use Complicated Passwords

When it’s time to create your account, use a complicated password. Do not use your name, birthdate, or parents’ names for passwords because these are terribly risky and can easily be figured out by hackers and identity thieves. It is best to be creative and use a mixture of alphanumeric characters and symbols that are hard to crack.

Monitor Your Credit

Unfortunately, there is no foolproof social media id theft prevention measure. When things come to its worst, the best thing to do is to know whether you are a victim as soon as possible to avoid further damage. Regularly monitoring your credit is a good idea to detect identity theft. Also, considering professional services such as credit monitoring can provide you with real-time information regarding your credit and bank accounts. Being informed at once can give you the opportunity to seek immediate action.

It is important to take note that social media has now become one of the most useful tools for financial advisors. Not only does a social medium enable them to express themselves freely but it also helps them reach out to their target market. On the other hand, it is also important to take note that the threat of identity theft is always there.

There is no foolproof measure to prevent identity theft. However, these tips will surely help financial advisors minimize the threat for them to be able to enjoy the benefits of social media. Aside from learning the tips on how to effectively use social media, financial advisors should consider protection from identity theft not only for themselves but for their clients as well.

Niche Site SEO Strategy That Will Put You Ahead Of Your Competitors!

Today in continuation of our series on building niche sites, I want to talk about niche site keyword research. How, if you have been following this series you may have noticed that somehow, we have touched on this variously in our previous posts.

However, what I want to really do here is NOT to present a step by step guide on how to do keyword research but to give you a niche site keyword strategy that will put your niche site up on the search engines for it to drive the type of traffic that will pay you!

Remember that our niche sites’ principle is:

1. Build a niche site that is optimized for the search engines…

2. So, when a potential customer searches for a product in your target market…

3. Your niche site shows up…

4. Giving the potential customer the opportunity to visit your site, click on your affiliate link, and make purchases…

5. And finally, you get paid a commission for your referral!

With this in mind you will understand how important it is to choose the right keywords for your niche sites because this is what will ensure that your niche site perform creditably on the search engines.

So, choosing the right keyword/phrase is actually the bedrock upon which the success of our niche sites strategy depends. Get this wrong and you would have gotten everything wrong.

Now talking about our niche site SEO strategy, here is a simple layout of what we will be doing in the next few coming days:

1. Pick 20 – 30 less difficult to rank for keywords

2. Optimize each of your niche site pages with each of your selected keyword phrases.

3. Build backlinks to your pages.

Of course, you do understand that search engine optimization is simply about optimizing your webpages with the right keywords and then building back links to those pages. So this will be our focus from now on as we continue with building our niche sites.

So, let’s begin with…

Tutorial on Optimizing your Niche Sites!

How To Pick Less Difficult To Rank Keywords!

No matter how profitable your chosen niche is, picking keywords that are too difficult to rank for is a sure recipe for failure. You therefore need to learn the skill of effectively analyzing the top 10 results in the SERPs. This goes beyond the common tactic that many SEOs use in checking the number of competitors in Google. You know you’re usually told to enter your target keywords, enclosed in brackets, into Google search and then judge the difficulty of that keyword by the number that shows up!

For example, working with our “how do you stop snoring” phrase, you’ll have something like this:

Niche Site Keyword Research Tutorial

As much as this may look logical, the truth is that this result can be misleading because you cannot really tell the difficulty from just that data.  There are some other factors that need to be considered which includes:

•    Is the title optimized with the keyword phrase?

•    Is the keyword “expertly” sprinkled in the content?

•    Is the keyword casually mentioned in the page or is the site built around it?

•    How about backlinks, are these pointing at the ranking page or the root domain?

•    Does the site have .edu, .gov, DMOZ, or Yahoo Directory links?

•    What is the Google PageRank of the site and possibly the ranking page?

•    Is the page ranking on the search engines a root domain or a subpage?

•    How old is the ranking site?

You can see from the above that trying to determine the ranking difficulty of a keyword phrase, using the number of competitors in a search result on Google, is really not effective.

You’ll need to analyze the Google results using the above criteria before choosing your target keyword phrase.

How Do You Analyze The Competition?

There are actually three ways I’ll advocate here (1) manual (2) use free online keyword tools and (3) use paid keyword tools.

1.    Manual: This will involve you checking each of the top 10 sites that show up on the search results in Google using the above criteria. First enter your seed keyword in Google’s keyword suggestion tool to determine your potential keywords.

Please read our previous post for a guide on how to do this.

From the results, enter each keyword into Google search box enclosed in brackets. Now use the above criteria to analyze the top 10 results. From your checks, pick 20 to 30 keyword phrases which will then form your target keywords. When you write your niche site content you will then optimize the content for each of these terms.

Of course, the biggest drawback of this method is the time taken. In most cases this method could take you days, or even weeks, to accomplish. As you know, time is money! So, if you think you’re saving money by doing it manually the truth is you’re actually losing money! But then, the choice is yours.

2.    Use Free Online Tools: Some of the free tools I’ve always used to do this are Google’s keyword suggestion tool and Spyful.com. Simply get your potential keywords from Google’s keyword tool and then from the results, key in your potential keywords into Spyful.com. Spyful.com will then give you a summation of the results.

Here again is the result we got from Spyful.com in our previous post:

Keyword research using Spyful.comAgain, read my previous entry for details on these data.

Please note that for this method you will also need to enter each of your potential keywords into Spyful.com. Though this method is a little faster than the manual method still it may take you hours and sometimes a day or so.

3.    Use Paid Keyword Tools: There are various keyword tools that will do this for you in a matter of hours or even minutes! Once you enter your seed keywords and select your filters, the tool will go into work first suggesting potential keywords depending on your selected filters and then analyzing the results to determine the best keywords to optimize your niche site for.

This option is simply the best if you’re concerned with time, saving money and getting scientifically proven results. When you get a keyword tool that will do this for you automatically and you can devote the time gained into doing other things that will benefit your niche site business!

Here are my top recommendations:

a.    Traffic Travis

b.    Market Samurai

c.    Long TailPro

In my previous entry I briefly mentioned how I tried out Market Samurai and Long TailPro to have a firsthand knowledge of how they work. What I did not tell you is that I actually have Traffic Travis and that is because I wanted to introduce it at the right time!

Now, this tool has been very useful to me. It stands between the free and paid tools because you can actually have a free version that you may use for how long you desire and when you find it useful, you can then upgrade to the paid version.

For me this is a better option. Instead of just testing the tool for just a week, why not use it to create some niche sites, see how it works and then as you make money with your niche sites, upgrade to the paid version. That’s reasonable, right?

Click here to download the free copy. (Ok, that is an affiliate link. Download and use as long as you wish, but when you upgrade I’ll get a commission – Win, Win for all us, right? 🙂 )

Frankly, I must tell you that what you’ll have from this free version is more than what you’ll get from some of the paid versions. (Just watch out, I will be giving you an insider view of this tool in our next post)

Niche Site SEO Strategy Take Away!

In rounding off this post let me say that in analyzing the competition, our criteria above is very important. If you truly want to be on the first page of Google then know that simply using “exact match” keyword search will not get you there. This will never tell you the actual rankling difficulty for your keywords and this is what really matters. If you’ll ask me, I’ll let you know that personally I’ll go for any keyword phrase that has thousands, or even millions, of competing websites but has very weak websites on the first page of Google!

The only way to know this ranking difficulty is by using the criteria we laid out above. And what a better way to save your time and achieve results quicker than using a proven tool like Traffic Travis?

That’s it for now. Please let me know your thoughts on this in your comments below. And as usual, I’ll appreciate it if you will share this post with your online connections. Thank you for doing that!

An Exclusive Guide to Picking a Profitable Niche Market

Last week I informed you of Pat Flynn’s Niche Site Duel 2.0 and how I have decided to take up the challenge. I also mentioned that as much as possible I would be updating you with the details as we go on with the challenge.

I’m pleased to inform you that after working for some hours a few days ago; I was able to pick a niche market to target for the challenge. And so, today I want to give you a detailed guide on how to pick a profitable niche market.

You must understand that this is the most important aspect of building a niche site because picking on the wrong niche can result on your wasting precious time, resources and effort.

But before going into choosing a niche market I want to briefly answer the question,

What Really Are Niche Sites?

I think we need to understand this right from the beginning because I have seen a whole lot of confusion when people talk about building niche sites. For example, among bloggers I discovered that many only see this as choosing a subject for their blogs. You may have heard bloggers telling you to target a niche if you want to succeed as a blogger!

Of course, this is good advice and may truly sound like what we are talking about here. But inherently, it is quite different from building niche sites.

Here are some differences:

1.    In niche blogging, you are expected to be an expert in your target niche. Because of the personal nature of blogs anything outside of being an expert and personal will hinder your success.

But this is not so with niche sites. In fact, I can authoritatively say, even if you don’t know anything about a particular niche you can still make a success of your niche site if you know what to do! Besides, you can run the site with a “pen name”!

2.    In niche blogging you are expected to continuously devote time and effort to updating the blog. This involves constantly writing new content, replying to comments, visiting other blogs to post comments, etc.

Unfortunately, doing all that takes away your ability of building multiple niche sites since you have limited time at your disposal. Can you imagine running 3 or 5 blogs at the same time? How about 10 or even 20?

Can you imagine how overwhelming that can be?

Remember, niche sites are about building multiple blogs that will help you achieve your dream of multiple streams of online income!

Indeed, there are other differences but these two are really the biggest ones. Later on we’ll touch on some other differences but for now let’s consider…

How to Pick a Profitable Niche

Riches In Niches Guide to Choosing a Target Niche! For this, I‘ll quickly give you my simple guide for choosing a profitable niche. Note that this is not about keyword research but “market research.” Of course, you may need to resort to your keyword tools to know what people are looking for but your concern right now is not what keywords you will target. That will come later.

So, what should determine your target niche? For me, these are the determinants:

1) Are there people who are passionate about this niche? Do they have a desperate problem they want solved? Are there enough “motivated buyers?”

2) Is the niche popular? Is the market big enough, but not so big as to have too much competition when you’re just starting out?

3) Is it profitable? Do the people in this niche spend money?

4) What products are being successfully sold right now to this niche? Can you get these products to sell as an affiliate or can you sell a similar product of your own? If you decide to sell your own product, can you improve on it and give them something they want that other products of their kind are currently lacking?

5) What are these existing products in your target niche being sold for? Can you make a good commission selling them as an affiliate? Or could you be profitable selling a similarly priced item?

6) Do you have an interest or passion for this niche? Do you have the experience to create the right content for your niche blog?  If you don’t, do you think you can develop the passion or interest? Or is there some good proven way you can get the content created for you?

You must take note of these 6 points because they will determine how much success you’ll get from your niche site. Picking the wrong niche will result in very unpleasant results!

Let me quickly inform you that Pat Flynn did a post where he gave his own criteria for choosing a niche market. Much of it is really not different from what I have here now but there is a particular criterion he mentioned which I want to note here. He called it “The Grandma Test!”

This is what Pat said about this test:

“This is an easy, but important test – at least to me.

Once I find a keyword with decent search volume and relatively low competition, I’ll ask myself the following question:

If I created a website in this niche and it became incredibly successful, would I be comfortable sharing my success with my grandma?

If the answer is no, then I may have to think twice about getting into this particular niche.”

I think that is worth noting because as much as you want to make money online, going over board and throwing your values away is not the right thing to do. I hope the message there is clear enough!

So, let’s move on…

Niche Market Selection Take Away:

Picking a profitable niche market is important if you want to make money with niche sites. The easiest way to do this is to look for a niche with a group of “extremely motivated buyers”. Some of the criteria you must consider are, is the niche large, popular and if there is a desperate need that calls for immediate attention. You must make sure that there’s a very strong motivation to take care of a problem.
