Freelance writing jobs can help you do just that. The time is gone when you have to hop from one job to another in order to make an extra income. Today, whatever the profession you’re in you can build a side income from it. A freelance writing business is just the right way of doing that. So if you desire multiple streams of income, then you should start looking at web writing as a business opportunity.

Why Freelance Writing Jobs Can Help You

freelace writing jobsWith the popularity of the internet, content has always and will remain king. The need for quality content has not stopped and never will. Basically, we all rely on Google to send us free targeted traffic, and what search spiders feed on is fresh content. If your blog or website is stale, Google and other search engines would simply neglect you.

As more and more people start their businesses online, they need freelance writers to write for them. Unfortunately, the number of web writers these days cannot meet up with the high demand for unique articles. That’s where you come in. personally, I’ve been earning some extra income with freelance writing jobs without having to answer “Yes Sir or Yes Ma” to anyone. Lol!

Of course, it takes time to achieve significant success as a freelance writer – but the efforts and rewards are really pleasing. As a guide I want to present you with the following steps to starting your own income generating freelance writing business.

1. Know Your Strengths

Every man/woman living on the face of the earth has her own strengths and weaknesses. But I’m not concerned with what you cannot do (your weakness), my concern is on your skill (strength).

Before you can write and get paid, you must determine those areas where you can beat your chest and stand up tall, even though you are yet to begin. What did you study in school? Are you skilled at something?

Well, these could be your greatest asset online. There are clients who are ready to pay for any form of article. But I suggest you train yourself in rabid markets like internet marketing, family, finances, relationship, teenage lives, politics, health, product reviews (e.g sittercity coupons and 6pm discount deals) etc.

You’ll always get writing jobs as a freelance writer when you’re skilled in any of the above markets. But other areas are also lucrative – it all boils down to your strength.

2. Set Your Working Time

If you approach freelance writing with open minds, within a month your first client could locate you. But before then, you need to make your working time known. If you already have a day’s job, then you can write for clients in the evening when you’re back from work.

Alternatively, you can write in the weekends. Also, let your prospective clients know that you’re a part-time freelance writer. This way, they would only send you writing assignments suitable for you.

3. Market Your Writing Service

Marketing is the ultimate recipe that determines your success online. If you can market yourself effectively, you will definitely earn a decent income in any business model.

There are proven ways you can attract a handful of paying clients. I personally use guest posting, joint affiliation and most definitely, social media marketing to attract clients. Believe me; you don’t need thousands of writing clients, but few targeted clients who supply you with unending writing job.

Let me quickly say that getting started with a freelance writing job business does not involve huge capital outlay. The only worthy investments you could make is for domain name, web hosting service and an autoresponder service so you can build an email list (very important).

You should understand that in most businessess effectively and efficiently managing customer relationships is job # 1. This is not different with freelance writing business. 1. Thanks Chadrack for publishing my guest post. I appreciate your corrections and I hope your readers enjoy reading it. God bless you man?

    • @Michael,

      And you too!

Did you say corrections? No, no, no! What I did was just to strengthen it for the search engines. Nothing corrected but just a few rearrangements! 🙂 Your article is truly great and I’m sure others will find it so!

  2. I’ve considered online freelance writing a year ago but found myself not good in writing. So I stopped and look for better ways instead without having to write articles.

    • @Allen Smith@ Chicago Commodities Lawyer, It’s nice to hear you left freelance writing for better opportunities. I’m glad you discovered a better opportunity and I wish you luck in your chosen business model. Thanks for commenting on my guest post.

  3. I’ve tried freelance writing jobs at Odesk and Associated Content. But I decided to quit because I find this job the most difficult freelancing job of all. Writing articles is not easy.

  4. Indeed..It’s really difficult. It has to do with a lot of effort and pretty stressful. And besides,I don’t have a talent when it comes in writing…Thank you for sharing.

  5. Freelance writing is how I started off with making money online. It was just whatever I came up with – a couple article mills, and some work on, but it was just to supplement the income my husband brought in.

It gave me time to figure out what I REALLY wanted to do online, and now I’m in the process of launching a product empire and creating digital products. I’ve already sold some products and people love them.

So even if you don’t want to freelance forever, it may give you some money and the knowledge to move on to bigger and better things later.

    • It’s so good to hear you started off with freelance business. Yes, creating your own info product can help you build strong credibility and put some cool cash into your account too. But ensure your product is well packaged and qualitative.

  6. I would imagine the competition is really high these days with everyone wanting to work from home, the economy, etc. But if you have a real talent for writing and are willing to put in the work, the money is definitely there!

Yeah me too. I tried freelancing before but article writing is too stressful for me especially when I have deadline.

    • @Dennis,

It does appear that many people believe writing articles as a freelancer is not for the faint hearted. Of course, no business worth its salt is easy. I’ve really not written articles as a freelancer but as a niche marketer I write a lot of articles and for me it’s really a simple thing to do if you know how to go about it.

You may need to read the replies of Michael to some of the comments. Note however that whether you do it as a freelancer or not, article writing is really a big part of marketing online. If you want to succeed online you just need to master the art!

  8. Thank you for sharing… Yes writing articles is quite difficult. But if you learn the techniques plus you have wild imaginations and informative, writing will be an easy task after all.

  9. I think that newbies like me should try this free lancing, even though it is not easy to right an article maybe one cause is time. but using the right techniques you have shared, I might become successful.

    • @Kate Brown Wilson, In order to try Freelance writing, you first need to learn how to write articles. It’s not difficult at all. But you need to use your brain and read a lot. This would help when you’re writing your own. I wish you good luck.

      • @Michael,

I agree with you Mike, article writing is not really a difficult task but it demands reading much. Frankly, I’ve written some very successful articles in niches I know nothing about. The secret is in investing some hours to read what others have written about the subject and then crafting your own.

@Kate, if you truly desire to succeed in a freelancing career what you need is to invest in your knowledge. I believe Michael’s post have some useful tips that can be of help.

Good post,it is undoubtedly an outstanding contribution to mine

  11. I did try Freelance Writing before a couple of years when I did not have a fulltime job. It was quite interesting to start with. One needs to have a clear focus, set aside a dedicated time and should do a lot of research on the topic they are writing.

    • @Cheolsu,

You sure did know what it takes to make it work with freelancing business. Many find it difficult because they are not ready to dedicate the time it requires.

  12. I am interested in freelancing but I think not for now, my daughter is very young and I think I cannot juggle my time… Maybe in the future. It’s also a good source of additional income. LOL!

    • @olivia34newton,

Freelancing definitely requires some extra time and with a child to take care of, it might just be another work load. However, I think it’s time like this you can really do some more since freelancing allows you to work at your own timing. All the same it really depends on you so I believe you’re more interested in focusing on your child for now. Wishing you the best.

  13. I think many people are now doing freelance jobs, but there are many things which one must know when they are doing freelance job. They must have good written skills from home and innovative ideas to put on. And when you know something, you will definitely go with it successfully.

  14. I am interested in free lancing, but coming up with really eye-catching and creative articles is very difficult. I feel like coming up with the right topic is always the hardest…

    • @Matt Smith,

Indeed making a success of a freelancing career demands some creativity. Like they say, practice is what makes perfect. So if you are really interested in freelancing don’t shy away from the idea of coming up with the right topic. Go out there and read more and then practice what you learned. Constantly doing this will definitely improve your skills.
