The Forever Recession Theory : Seth Godin Can Never Be More Correct!

Forever recession and the future economy - Seth Godin Theory!

Back in 2013 during the US Government Shut Down, I wrote a post where  I discussed some of the hard realities of our times. Now, I must say that from the things happening around us today it shows that many are still to learn anything.

Now, I’m not a pessimist. However, I must say that from what we see every day on  television, what we hear on radio, and from what we have on social media sites like facebook and twitter, it is clear that many still do not understand the times we are living in.

For example, here in my country, the unemployment rate is astronomical to day the least.

While young graduates are being churned into the labor market every year there is little or no hope of any form of gainful employment for these ones. Many others who are “lucky” to have something they call a job can barely make anything out them.

Now, my problem is really not the unemployment rate rather the response of these people to the situation. It is pathetic that despite many of these ones being very brilliant students, they simply have no clue on how to “dig” themselves out of the unemployment quagmire.

Instead of these to really understand what they are up against have rather erroneously swallowed hook, line and sinker the idea that it is the responsibility of government to provide jobs for every citizens. Besides, they believe that getting a government employment is simply  the best option and because these jobs are not there they spend most of their precious time venting their anger on the system.

On radio phone-in programs, on facebook and twitter, even in most churches, the government is lambasted for not doing what they ought to do – provide jobs for the teeming populace! This has degenerated to the point where there is now a great divide – the government officials on one side and the masses on the other!

Now, as much as I believe that the government has its responsibilities, I however, do not believe that it is the responsibility of the government to spoon-feed all of us. I actually believe that there is so much we can do for ourselves today that we do not need to wait for the government. And if you are in a third world like me, you’ll understand that the government officials are not really them for us but for themselves so why wait for them in the first place!

But beyond that, I really do not believe that getting a job should be your dream. There is so much opportunity for us today that your dream shouldn’t be in helping someone else fulfill his or her dreams. You should rather be putting your mental energies into finding a way of breaking free from being a victim of the society.

Your Destiny Is In Your Hands

This is why I was taken all in with the “new economy” as forecasted by Seth Godin.

Hear him:

“Why do we believe that jobs where we are paid really good money to do work that can be systematized, written in a manual and/or exported are going to come back ever? The internet has squeezed inefficiencies out of many systems, and the ability to move work around, coordinate activity and digitize data all combine to eliminate a wide swath of the jobs the industrial age created.

“There’s a race to the bottom, one where communities fight to suspend labor and environmental rules in order to become the world’s cheapest supplier. The problem with the race to the bottom is that you might win…

“The recession is a forever recession. There’s a cyclical thing that comes and goes but there’s this other thing and it’s the end of the industrial age. It lasted for 80 years. For 80 years, you got a job, you did what you were told, you retired. And good people could make above average pay for average work. And it ended. And so 2012 is not going to be more of the same, it’s going to be worse of the same, in that the industrial age is going away and a new thing is going to take its place.”

Please watch full video for more insight:

So, what are you waiting for?

Can you see that the industrial age is indeed going away? Can you see that today you have more opportunities to live your life in your own terms?

But What Are You Doing About It?

Are you still wasting your precious time and energy bashing your government officials on twitter and facebook? Can’t you see that those hours you spend on facebook engaging on unnecessary “hate talk” can be channeled into creating a better future for you?

Like someone did say, if you are prepared to blow leaves for $8.00 an hour, why not start your own leaf blowing company and blow leaves for $35 an hour?

To that I want to add, if you are presently unemployed why waste the little money you source from friends and relatives on facebook or radio phone-in programs venting your anger on the government instead of doing a search online once a day and reading an article on a subject of your own choice. You know you could also learn about starting a business online.

If you do this for the next 3 or 4 months while you are looking for a job and you can focus on just a subject of your choice, by the end of those months, you would have read enough about that subject that you could qualify to be an expert in it!

You Need To Free Yourself from This Mental Slavery

The system may have conditioned you to go along the path they have chosen for you. But you can change that. There is no magic to it. You can start at any point.  I think there is no better way to put this than how Abraham Lincoln rightly put it. He insisted that industry is what allowed all men to prosper. You can’t blame your misfortune on others and hope to rise to any height.

“The prudent, penniless beginner in the world, labors for wages awhile, saves a surplus with which to buy tools or land, for himself; then labors on his own account another while, and at length hires another new beginner to help him. This…is free labor–the just and generous, and prosperous system, which opens the way for all.”

So, if you are among those who have always blamed the politicians or some government official for the problem of the economy its time you have a change of mind. We are not just in a recession but in a revolution. The industrial age is giving way for the new economy. You simply need to align yourself with this new change or you will be left behind.

I don’t know if you are among those who lost their jobs as a result of the recession or you are just out of school, you can decide on your own future today. You simply need a little readjustment in your thinking. It’s your life and you must live it the way you know best.

  1. Hi Chadrack,

It has being a while. Whiles reading the post I just kept laughing at myself, there are of course millions of people of such people in Ghana always lambasting the government.

My cousin for instance studied Business Administration at a higher and had being looking for a job for the past 4 years. That to me is madness. You studied business, so why not start a business?

    • @Emmanuel,

Great to hear from you once again!

Now,is that not really funny? The truth is that many of us really do not know the purpose of schooling. They are condition to believe that getting an education is about taking up employment, get a fat pay check and then spend the rest of your life “slaving” to make someone else rich while they go on complaining about the government no taking care of us!

Btw, why not muse the idea of starting something online to him? That might save him wasting his life looking for what is not there!

Really glad to hear from you.
