How to Write a Good Blog Title: SEO Title Tips!

Putting together a blog post is like constructing a building. There are different parts to the blog that will make it achieve your purpose. But of all these the title is the most important.

Crafting a powerful title for your blog post is a skill you must master as a blogger. Your post titles are simply headlines that could make or break your posts!

In this post I want to reveal a simple tactic that you can use to greatly empower your post titles. I’m sure you’ve heard about the why and how to optimize your titles for the search engines. All that is good stuff. But the tactic I want to reveal here is something that will take your post titles to another level when it come to search engine optimization.

This simple tactic could really be laid out in 3 components. But I’ll simply handle it by breaking it up as follows:

Writing blog titles that work

1. Write For Your Regular Readers:

The first aspect of your blog title you want to work on is writing a title that will peek the interest of your regular readers. To get this right you want to know what has been popular with your readers and the topic you’re dealing with in your particular blog post.

Once you’ve these in place, craft a blog title that will make them click and read more.

Remember your regular readers will not go to google before they come to your blog. They are not searching for your site. Either they will come via RSS feed or they might simply enter your blog URL into their blowser.

But once they are on your blog, the first thing that will entice them to read more is the title. So put in your best in writing that title. Frankly you may forget about seo here as that will be taken care of below!

Well, that’s not much or is it?

On to #2!

2. Polish Your Title For The Search Engines:

Now this is where the fun starts.

I know you’re not writing only for your regular readers. You also want to get more search engine traffic, or don’t you?

Ok, search engine traffic is frankly a different ball game. To achieve that you’ll need to make sure that your post does not only appear on the search engine results but the title actually makes people to click and visit your blog.

What you need do is to easily work on the same title you’ve written and make it do the work for you. You can easily do this with any seo plugin like All In SEO Pack plugin.

Once you’ve this installed, before publishing your blog post, take the same title you’ve written and rework it. Ensure that you build in a little curiosity and your target keywords/phrases into it. Enter the new title into the SEO box in your writing section. It’s something like this:

3. Shorten and SEO The Post Link:

One other thing you can do to empower the title is to shorten and seo the post link. This can be done easily using the new permalink feature of wordpress. Just below the title pane you’ll see the post permalink.

shorten blog title example

Click on the “Edit” button and then enter a short and optimized link with your keywords/phrase. For example on this post the permalink is, “” Once you’ve entered what you want click on “ok”.

4. Craft A Powerful Description For The Post:

The last thing you’ll want to do before publishing your post is to enter a description for the post.

Understand that when it comes to search engine marketing what will help your blog article to achieve its purpose of drawing traffic to your blog is its ability to offer something of interest to the searcher.

Getting on the first page of Google is nothing. What really matters is that people click on your links and visit your blog. And most times what will achieve this is not just the title but the title in conjunction with the description.

It must interest you to know that if you don’t give the search engines a description, they will simply take the first few words on your post and return that as the description. Or most times they return your blog home description!

This does not only affect the search engine ranking of that post but also may not peek the interest of that particular searcher.

So how do you give the search engines a description for each of your post?

You simply take that post’s target keywords/phrases and write a short description for the post. All In One SEO Pack plugin is handy here also. Just below the title pane of the plugin you’ll see the pane for the description. Enter the description here. For example, for this post here is the description I used,

“Writing SEO blog titles are a good way of driving organic targeted traffic from the search engines. Read this post and discover a simple way of doing this..!”

Now if you look at that description you’ll discover that those sentences never appeared any where on the post itself. But simply putting them there is a boost to the effectiveness of the post when it appears on the search engine results.

So Let’s See The Results Of This Simple SEO Tactic!

Yes, I want to show how this tactic will come out at the end of the day! So let’s use this very blog post. I’ve just published it before taking this screen shots. First how the post appears on your blog page:

the blog title

and here’s how it appears on your title bar:

title bar example

Do you note that the post title on the blog page is different from the one on the title bar? The one on the blog is visible to your readers why the one the task bar is what searchers will see on the search engines.

This is really powerful. You can use this to empower your blog titles for more SEO results every time!

So let’s hear what you think of this tactic. Have you been using it? If so how effective has it been to you?

I rank number one for one of the most competitive key terms out there on Google.

Can you take a guess what it is?

It’s online marketing. You know what?

Guess how much money that one keyword makes me?

Little to nothing.

Because I picked the wrong keyword to rank number one for.

Hey everyone, I’m Neil Patel, and today I’m gonna share with you how to find the right keywords to rank number one on Google for.

The first tip I have for you is go put in your competitor URL, in Semrush. What Semrush will show you is your most popular pages, that your competitors are getting getting traffic for.

This will give you ideas of what your competitors are doing. If your competitors are bigger than you, they probably know what they’re doing, and they’re probably going after keywords and traffic, that’s converting into leads and sales.

You wanna make sure you look at your strategy before you come up with your own. Once you’ve figured out their most popular pages, go take those pages and go put them into Ahrefs.

Ahrefs will show you how many links each of those pages have, and you know what the hardest thing is, is to build links?

What you wanna do is go look for the most popular pages that has the least amount of links. That means those are the pages you should be focusing on first. It’ll give you ideas on all the keywords that your competitors are ranking for when they don’t have a ton of backlinks.

That’ll give you idea of the ones you should be targeting first, ’cause not only will they drive you a lot of traffic, but they’re the lease competitive because you don’t have to build backlinks.

The second tip I have for you is use Google Search Console. Did you know that Google gives you a free tool that helps you rank number one? Yes, it’s called Google Search Console. It breaks down all of your rankings, the key words that your pages are getting traffic for, and even the positioning as page 1, page 2, page 3, the six spot on page one, right? It breaks down exactly where you’re ranking.

Now the cool part about Google Search Console is when you dive deep into each of your pages using the search analytics, it shows you all of the impressions that you’re getting for keywords that you’re on the bottom of page one for. The reason you wanna go after the keywords that you’re at the bottom of page one for, it’s way easier to rank number one for a keyword, that you’re already on the first page for, versus going after a brand new keyword that you’re not even in the top hundred for.

Going after a brand new keyword that you’re not even in the top hundred for, is a lot more work than going after one that you’re already on the bottom of page one for.

While you realize that Google Search Console is that you rank for a lot of long tail keywords at the bottom of page one, that you’re not even trying to go after, but yet they drive traffic, and they convert visitors into customers.

So once you have those keywords, you wanna look at them, and Google Search Console shows you all these keywords. You wanna then go to your landing page, and make sure that those keywords are are in your title tag, your meta description, your heading tag, and within the content of your page. By doing that, you’ll slowly start increasing your rankings for those pages that you’re at the bottom of page one for.

The last tip I have for you to finding amazing keywords is to use Google Trends. It’s another free tool by Google. It breaks down keyword traffic from web images, news.

This breaks down what keywords are climbing in popularity, and you wanna go after the keywords that aren’t popular yet, but are climbing.

Foe example, Apple has a ton iPhones, right? I don’t know what’s the next one they’re gonna release, but let’s say it’s the iPhone 100. If they’re gonna release the iPhone 100, you wanna talk about it before everyone else is talking about it, because the moment you’re one of the first adopters, one of the factors that Google has when it comes to rankings is time.

It’s hard to outrank older pages. It’s not impossible, it’s just harder, so why not be one of the first people to blog about new terms that aren’t popular yet. So, let’s say the iPhone 100 is coming out. You can be blogging about it. You can be blogging about iPhone 100 cases, iPhone 100 apps, new features that they have, and even if you don’t know ’em all, just blog about the ones you do know about. You could even make your own predictions. Let’s say you don’t even know anything about the iPhone 100.

You could be writing articles about huh, here’s my 10 predictions for the iPhone 100. Even if they’re wrong, that’s okay. You’re not lying to people. As long as you’re taking really good educated guesses, and providing amazing content, people won’t have issues.

So write about new upcoming keywords, because you’re not gonna get traffic from them right away, but in two, three months, or even a year, you’re gonna be dominating, because no one else went after those keywords before you did. Just think about green tea, and acai berries, and all of those hot crazy nutrition terms. Yes, they’re really popular now, and they’re buzz words, but back in the day, no one was really looking at them.

If you’re not sure what keywords are up and coming, just tell me the keyword, or link in the comments below using the Google Trends link, and I’ll tell you if it’s a good keyword, or a bad keyword, if it’s up and coming, or it’s declining.

That way you’re not wasting your time writing articles on stuff that won’t be popular.

Google SEO: How to Give Your Site a Fighting Chance

As we have mentioned on several occasions in the past, your business website is an essential component of your online business. This is because your business success will mostly depend on what you’re able to achieve with your website. It should be able to do a whole lot of things for this to happen.

For example, as a website owner or “webmaster” your site should constantly drive a healthy flow of visitors since the website would be useless if no-one visits it. It’s pertinent to note that the higher the traffic generated, the higher the number of visitors that can converted to customers! Also, if you run a business, it’s crucial that you grow your site’s popularity otherwise, you won’t be able to achieve online brand awareness.

One of the ways that you can help your website to do all these effectively is optimizing it for the search engines. This is one reason why SEO – Search Engine Optimization – is a hot topic these days.

So, What Is SEO?

SEO refers to the tasks you need to carry out to make your site hot or, at least, interesting enough for search engines to care about it. Fact is, if you think your site isn’t popular right now there are plenty of practical steps you can take to improve your site’s search engine ranking and it into a high performer.

In today’s blog post, I’m want to share with you some dynamite SEO tips that will help you do this. Hope you make good use of this information.

How to Google SEO your site

That being said, here’s how to do Google SEO for your site in 2016 for better results:

1. Make Sure Your Web Host Is Up To Scratch

It might shock you to learn that sometimes the problem doesn’t lie with the site itself. Rather, it can be with the physical hardware it gets hosted on! There are hundreds of thousands of Web hosts these days.

Each one offers varying features and performance. Did you know that search engines like Google penalize sites on slow servers? As you can imagine, that’s quite a worrying thought.

Before we optimize your website, the first thing you need to do is check the server’s performance. There are several free tools you can use to do this. I recommend using the Pingdom Website Speed Test. It also allows you to test your site from various locations around the world. All you need to do is pick one closest to your area.

When the test completes, check out the Page Analysis tab. How much time gets spent at the “connect” and “wait” stages? If the results are high for either, run a couple more tests. Quite often, high times mean your site is on a slow server.

If that’s the case, I recommend moving your website over to a VPS. is a good place to start. A VPS or Virtual Private Server will offer higher performance and dedicated system resources. A shared server or host won’t guarantee anything like that to your site.

2. Strip Off The Bloat

Assuming the hosting side of things is OK, it’s now time to turn your attention to your website. Most sites these days run content management systems like WordPress. They are brilliant because they make it quick and easy to publish content. They also offer a plethora of customization and layout options.

The only downside to database-driven websites like that is the excess fat they carry! Examples include inefficient plugins, templates and other website “widgets”. Take the opportunity to uninstall what you don’t need.

All too often, ready-made themes come with plugins that you’ll never use. Delete the bloat and keep only what you need. You can then run the Pingdom Website Speed Test again to see the performance difference.

Make your website SEO as simple as possible

3. Keep it simple, stupid!

We’ve all heard of the “KISS” acronym before, and it applies to the world of SEO. The problem with many websites is they are often complicated and hard to follow. The layouts may also not adapt well to mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.

Review the general look and feel of your site. Does it have a simple navigation structure? Is the content easy to read?

One test you could do is to disable JavaScript and CSS in your Web browser. Next, reload your home page. What you see is, in essence, what a search engine like Google will look at. If your site doesn’t make sense at such a basic level, you have a problem!

Often, the simplest solution is to use a different layout or theme for your website. If you use WordPress, for example, it’s easy to select and install a different one for your site.

4. Follow Some Basic SEO Tips

Last, but not least, you need to spend some time making sure you’ve got the SEO basics taken care of on your website! Here are a few SEO tips to help you get started:

  • Page Titles – Keep these short but relevant to the page content;
  • Meta Description tag – Again, ensure it is relevant and includes your main keyword or phrase;
  • Use SEO-friendly URLs – is easier to understand than!

When you put them together and use them properly, social media and SEO are a potent combination.

2. The Google Effect

Although it is called search engine optimization, the reality is that Google is the king of SEO. They are the ones that are creating the algorithms and the rules and regulations that everyone abides by at the moment. And, they are also the biggest search engine on the web, so they have a lot of power. As a result, it is important that your SEO strategy bows down and kisses the ring, so to speak. Make sure that you use Google services like Google Plus and YouTube for more effective results. Because they are Google’s services, they rank more highly in searches.

The question is, with hundreds and thousands of SEO companies out there, which should you, choose? This decision is a big one, and so you need to take your time.

Here are some hints and tips that may just help.

How to hire the right SEO company

1. Set a Budget

What is your budget? Before you do anything, you need to know how much you are willing to spend on this aspect of your business. Remember, you want to have a strong web presence. Often, that means that you need to work hard to get it. When you outsource this function, though, you have to pay a fair price. Decent SEO services are worth the money. That means that you should set a reasonable budget.

2. Check out The Company’s SEO

If a company has got the SEO skills, they should prove it. Of course, all firms of this nature have great SEO, but you want to look for one that is outstanding. When you’re looking at different agencies, you need to check them out online. How do they rank on Google? Are they easy to find? If the company has an excellent SEO game, it means that they know what they are doing. If you can’t even find them, though, you might want to look elsewhere.

3. Ask For a Referral

Do you know other people in the industry? If you have a wealth of business contacts, it is time to use them. Networking will be the key to your success here. You should ask these people what company they use for their SEO. When you get a referral, it means that you can trust the company. It is well worth asking around to see what everyone else does. That way, you can be sure that you will get the best company for your needs.

4. Get Many Consultations

You already know what your budget is, so now it’s time to get some consultations and quotes. Remember, you can talk to as many companies as you want. When you meet people, remember to ask the right questions. You need to find out what their background is and how long they have worked in the industry. When you know that, you will know whether you can trust them.

5. Ask To See Case Studies

Finally, before you choose a company, you need to see some of their work. You can ask to see some case studies. If you do so, you will find that you can see the results the company can offer you. You should ask for analytic reports and data. This information will tell you all you need to know about the business.

Take Away

When it comes to finding an SEO company, take things slow. You need to be sure you’ve found the one for you before you do anything. Don’t allow yourself to be “rushed” into signing a contract. It’s about your business success and you must handle it with utmost care.

Keyword Research Tools: Are They Really Important For SEO?

The world of search engine optimization is a vast and, most times, complicated one. There are many rules and techniques that one must follow to get the desired results. And there are also many tools that SEO newbies and experts alike use each day. Of these tools, keyword research tools are perhaps the most used of all.

However, some naysayers suggest keyword research tools aren’t that important for search engine optimization. But come to think of it, is that not like saying engine oil isn’t necessary for your car?

Of course, I have heard many (and also read many articles) that tend to portray the view that even using keywords in our content is nothing but a waste of time. Their argument? Google has evolved to the stage where search engine spiders now know more about your content and what people are searching for!

As much as I don’t dispute the fact that Google has “evolved” significantly in the past few years I still believe a “splash” of keywords here and there will greatly help the search engines understand better what your content is all about. Don’t forget that the search engines are like some secretary who has control over a huge volume of documents neatly filed away in carbinets (indexed content). To retrieve any of these content this imaginary secretary definitely need some form of tag (in this case keywords).

This is actually the way I look at keywords or keyword phrases when using them in content. The search engine spiders have improved over the years but still need you to give them something to help them identify your content so they can know where to “file” (index) away your content. And of course, whenever, someone searches using something similar in their queries, the search engines will know which content to retrieve and present to them!

Sure that makes the whole thing much understandable, right?

Now, if that is the case why should anyone say keyword research tools are not important for SEO? Look at the market today and you will see that there are many free and premium keyword research tools around. Is that not enough to convince you that these tools are very useful?

If you are still in doubt, then let me give you some reasons why you and your business need keyword research tools.

Keyword research tools and SEO

3 Top Reasons Why You Keyword Research Tools Are Important For SEO

1. They Help To Make Your Content Relevant

Today’s search engines use “algorithms” to serve only relevant content to people’s queries. So, if you’re searching for a colcannon recipe, such results will get returned to you. You are seldom likely to see results for things like “how to grow potatoes” or “a tourist guide to Ireland”!

All too often, website owners fail to target the right audience. The reason is usually down to the fact they aren’t using the relevant keywords on their pages. Keyword research tools help website owners to fine-tune their content.

The higher the relevancy, the higher you will rank in search engines like Google.

2. They Help You To Discover Popular Keywords And Phrases

Let’s assume that you know how to tailor your content for particular keywords. What happens if you do so for queries that people don’t usually type into search engines? Well, not a lot will happen, as you can expect!

The brilliant thing about keyword research tools is they tell you what’s hot in your niche. Colcannon recipes might not be as popular as jacket potato ones, for instance.

3. You Can Find Out What Keywords Are Popular With Your Competitors

What is it that people search for when they visit your competitor’s sites? One way to find the answer is by using a keyword research tool, of course!

Such tools are also useful for learning more about the competition. New websites get set up each day, and some grow faster more than others. A keyword research tool will help you stay at the top of your game.

So, Which Keyword Research Tools Are The Best To Use?

As you can appreciate, there are plenty of tools out there that you can use. Google’s own keyword research tool is one example. It gets offered to people that use its AdWords pay-per-click marketing service.

Another is SEcockpit. I recommend reading the review of SEcockpit by Andrew Hansen to learn more about it. The best thing to do is research the different tools available and find one that best meets your needs. That’s because there isn’t one universal tool that works for everyone.

As you’ll have deduced by now, keyword research tools are an important part of any SEO strategy. If you want people to visit your site, you need to make sure they can find it first and using the right keyword research tool will help you do this!

This of course, is my take on this issue. Feel free to let us know your opinion in your comments below.

Worried About Hiring A Bad SEO Company? Here’s How To Spot & Avoid Them!

These days you have to do more than just design a kick-ass website. You need to apply SEO or “search engine optimization” techniques as well.

Because you want to increase the number of people that visit your site!

As you can imagine, a website with few visitors to it isn’t going to be of much use. But, if you have thousands of regular visitors, you’ll get higher conversions. And if you sell products on your website, that also means a better return on your investment.

Most people just hire an SEO company to look after that side of things for them. The problem however, is that most SEO companies do what is referred to as blackhat SEO. Falling into the hands of these group of SEOs could spell a BIG problem to your business website ultimately.

Hiring an SEo company

So, how can you avoid ending up with a “bad” SEO firm? How can you ensure you do not waste you money in hiring the wrong SEO Company if you need to use one?

The following scenarios will raise red flags and help you to avoid them:

How to Identify “Bad” SEO Companies

1. They Send You Unsolicited Emails

Do you get emails from supposed “offshore” SEO consultants offering their services? If so, some of what they say might pique your interest. But, you shouldn’t engage with people that spam your inbox.

They might say that they’ve visited your website and can improve your SEO for you. They may even tell you how “impressed” they are with your content. But what they fail to mention is they are lying!

Most, if not all unsolicited emails of that nature use a marketing list as their source. Yes, that’s right; someone has BOUGHT your email address from somewhere! The best place for such correspondence is the junk mail folder in your email program.

2. They Don’t Have A Website

You would think that all SEO companies have a website that tells visitors more about what they do. The ones that don’t are usually scammers or novices. You can often tell that because they use a generic email address instead of one with their own domain.

When looking for SEO companies, the best tool at your disposal is Google. For instance, if you’re searching for a Perth-based firm, you’ll come across Don’t talk to anyone that only has an email address like “”!

Google SEO guide

3. They Make Promises They Can’t Keep

As Judge Judy always says on TV, if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is! I’ve lost count of the number of so-called SEO companies that make fantastic promises.

For example, they guarantee to get you “to the top of Google” or they can deliver results in just 24 hours. There is no magic formula to guarantee success in the world of SEO.

It’s an ongoing process and, if done right, you will get to “the top” at some point. There is no service to buy or people to bribe at search engines for guaranteed results.

4. They Claim To Have “Secret” Methods Of Success

The biggest alarm bell should be when an SEO company tells you about how they have secret ways of success. Everything that all good SEO consultants know about is available to learn online. Even Google offer a free PDF to help you tune up your site for SEO purposes!

It goes without saying that you should also avoid SEO firms that claim to have “people on the inside.” Google employees aren’t allowed to sell any confidential information. Not if they want to avoid going to jail, of course!

Avoiding a bad SEO company

Search engine optimization is important for your business website however, if you must hire a search engine optimization company for that aspect of your business you must invest in the right one. Any expense on SEO is a cost on your business and so must be able to give you the right ROI. Be wise, use the above to check out any SEO company before committing to any agreement.

1. Keywords

The first thing to know is that Google sends crawlers, or spiders, to every website on the planet. They’re looking for a few important factors to determine how useful and important your website is. The first thing they look for is keywords. By doing that, they get a sense of what your website is about. After all, they want to present their users with the most relevant results. So, make sure you use plenty of descriptive and explanative keywords in your headers, titles, and copy. We often find that hiring an SEO consultant can help you highlight the very best keywords for your business.

2. Authority

Google like to know they’re sending users to a reputable, established site. To do this, they measure your level of authority. There are a number of ways they do this. First of all, how much traffic is accessing your site. If a steady stream of visitors are coming to your site, Google can assume you have something to offer. They also take into account the authority of the sites linking to you. For example, if The Huffington Post links to your website, Google can assume you have a certain level of authority and credibility.

3. Performance

Google don’t like to send their searchers to slow websites. That would damage their credibility. So, they scour the web for high-performing, fast websites. If yours takes too long to load, it’s never going to make it to the first page of Google. Speak to your web host about speeding up your initial server speed. Then consult your web designer to make the website pop faster. Trust us, Google will notice the difference.

4. User Experience

The speed and performance of your website all feeds into the umbrella topic of user experience. Google wants to make sure that searchers find what they’re looking for. If your website is confusing, difficult to navigate and fussy, you’re moving down the ranks! Google only ranks simple, effective websites that provide a fantastic user experience.

5. Content And Social Media

There’s a lot of talk about social media in SEO circles. Now, Google don’t take into account your follower numbers or number of likes on Facebook. But, they do rank authority. And the best way to get authority (lots of traffic and lots of links) is through content and social media. Use high-quality content to spread all corners of the internet. Build your social media network, and ensure there is a community that relies on your website.

Finally, always know that Google is a tricky beast to please. The best-techniques are always changing. To stay ahead of the game make sure you keep up with the times, and ensure your website is performing. Do this and you will always come out a winner!

Five Questions You Must Ask Before Hiring SEO Experts

Hiring SEO experts

SEO is big news in business circles these days. In fact, it is that big that almost every business now use some SEO within their marketing strategy.

If you take it further and say, starting a successful business in 2015 without SEO would be akin to failure, you’ll not be far from the truth! This is another reason why you would want to hire experts in SEO if you are not confident of doing it yourself.

But, is it as easy as hiring an expert and instantly succeeding?

No, you need to do your research first and ask a couple of essential questions.

In this article I want to share with you some questions you need to ask before engaging SEO experts to handle the SEO needs of your website. of course, you know you’re investing your hard earned money, right? So if you don’t want to pump money into an investment that will produce any ROI then you want to listen up!

Ready? Then let’s get started…

1. How Will You Improve My Search Engine Rankings?

Every search engine optimization company you come across should tell you how they plan to tackle the issue. They are not giving away trade secrets to the enemy by revealing this information, so stay clear of companies that don’t cooperate. How else are you supposed to understand how they will perform? Also, they should tell you how long it will take to do complete the job. A few of the things you are looking out for are technical reviews of your website and “on page” optimization. Both will weed out any broken links and make your website as search engine friendly as possible.

2. Do You Follow Webmaster Guidelines?

You want a company that does adhere to these guidelines because that is how search engines rank their websites. The Webmaster guidelines are there to make sure fake links and spam content are not used to drive up the websites. If they don’t adhere to these rules, the likelihood is that your site will suffer. Google and other engines will spot it straight away and lower your ranking as a result.

3. Can You Guarantee Me Top Spot?

When a company says ‘yes, of course, we can’, seriously consider dropping them from your list. In all honesty, it is impossible to guarantee results. That is mainly because search engines move the goalposts and mainly because there is a lot of competition. Even the best SEO companies in the business won’t guarantee you top spot in the rankings, so no other SEO company should guarantee it either.

4. Can I Have A List Of Your Current & Past Clients?

It is important that you have access to unbiased and impartial reviews. Also, you want a list of their customer base to make sure they are telling the truth. A lot of companies will take the risk and lie to you about all kinds of topics. SEO is incredibly important, so don’t take the risk. Ask around for information and validation of the company you are thinking about choosing.

5. How Do You Measure Success?

Measuring success is important because you both need to be on the same page. They might think they have done their job while you are not happy with the performance. All it takes is communication and a set of goals that you would like to achieve.

Indeed, there are plenty more questions you could ask, but these are the most basic and important. the answers you receive from these questions will readily help you assess what type of SEO expert you’re about hiring.

Is Your SEO Expert Ripping You Off? Here’s How You Can Know!

Is Your SEO Expert Ripping You Off?

Search engine optimization (SEO) has become a big industry in recent times as more and more businesses now rely on SEO experts to get their business websites on the first page of Google, Bing or Yahoo!

Of course, with the constant algorithm changes from Google, staying up to date with the changes is something that no business person will want to waste his/her time about.  The solution? Get an SEO person to agonize about such technical issues!

Unfortunately, while we expect these SEO professionals to do a good job for the money we pay, the sad truth is that some unsuspecting clients end up getting ripped off. Yes, that may not be pleasant to hear as no-one likes to think they get taken for a ride, but it does happen I’m afraid to say.

Although it’s rare, poor results sometimes come from some people in the SEO industry.

So, if you hire a search engine optimization guru, how do you know they’re doing a good job?

Here are the telltale signs that might prove you need to find someone new:

1. You Aren’t Given Any Measurable Results

A good SEO firm will keep you up-to-date with the various things they do on your behalf. This means sending you regular reports; i.e. the things that help you measure results!

A bad SEO firm will seldom, if ever, provide you with any details. They might tell you how “complicated” the process is for you to understand. And they’ll use that excuse to justify not showing you any data.

2. They Never Ask You For Anything

Have you ever wondered why the person you hired to do your SEO never asks you for anything? You’d think they would have some questions, right? A decent SEO consultant will ask for things like:

  • Access to your site’s Google Analytics account;
  • Access to your social media accounts;
  • The keywords and phrases you want to rank well in; and
  • Admin access to your website.

If they never ask for such details, you should be suspicious. In fact, you should take that as a sign they are doing little for the money!

3. They Won’t Help You Improve Your Site

Part of the work an SEO expert provides is consultancy. They will work with you to build a website that gives you a return on your investment. They aren’t web designers; but, they will point out areas of concern. For example, they might tell you that your site isn’t responsive.

A good SEO person will even let you know of the best ways to improve certain layout problems. That way, you can increase the readability of your content.

4. They Are Secret Squirrels

One telltale sign that will raise a red flag is when your SEO provider won’t say what they do. Sure, each person has their industry secrets. But, in the world of SEO, proper experts all use similar techniques.

There is no secret fellowship that SEOers are part of! If your guy (or gal) won’t tell you what they’re doing, chances are they don’t know what to do! In other words, they will just make things up as they go along and hope you don’t catch onto them.

5. They Increase Their Fees Without Explaining Why

Most SEO firms and experts work on an hourly basis. Some might offer a flat-fee package, depending on what you want them to do. If yours keep increasing their fees, are they telling you why?

If they don’t, it’s time to look for a legitimate SEO person to use. Any service provider should be able to justify why they want to charge more for their work.

Getting a SEO expert to help you with the search engine marketing needs of your website is something you should do. But just because you need this desperately does not mean you should throw away your money. It is better to hire the right SEO consultant to optimize your site. So, before you hire that SEO person, check them against these tips and you will be making the most use of your money.
