Super Affiliate Secrets Exposed: How Super Affiliates Make Money (And How You Can Too!)

Have you ever wondered how the super affiliates make huge commissions from their affiliate marketing promotions?

I’m talking about income reports from super affiliates like Stefan Pylarinos, John Crestani, Tai Lopez, Zac Johnson, Jeremy Schoemaker (aka ShoeMoney), John Chow, Mark Ling, Darren Rowse, Pat Flynn, etc.

When you read those reports and consider how you’re struggling to get your first commission do you ask yourself, where you’re getting it wrong?

Well, the truth is, they have some “secret” strategies that no one is telling you about.

No doubt, you’ve read a number of listicles on how to become a super affiliate simply by choosing the right niche, joining the right affiliate program and writing the “best” product reviews. But as much as such advice is helpful the fact is, attaining the super affiliate status is never as easy as a 1-2-3 step by step system.

In the past few months I’ve been studying and digging in deep to uncover the secret strategies of these super affiliates and I must say I’m astounded at my findings.

In this post I want to share what I have learned with you. If you understand these strategies and diligently implement them as an affiliate marketer I can guaranteed you that you’d soon join the league of super affiliates.

But first,

Who REALLY is a Super Affiliate?

How Super Affiliates Make Money

A Super Affiliate is an affiliate who is at the top of the affiliate marketing game. These are the affiliates that generate thousands, and even millions, of dollars from the affiliate marketing industry. They generate the biggest commissions from the top affiliate marketing programs.

They are always at the top of the leaderboards generating real, regular income from their blogging and affiliate efforts.

Analyzing a recent poll conducted by STM forum, Affise.com (a SaaS marketing platform) divided affiliates based on their monthly income into the following categories:

  • Total beginners – affiliates who are only losing money at the moment;
  • Low-level affiliates – those who earn up to $300/day;
    Intermediate affiliates – those who earn from $300/day up to $3,000/day;
  • High-level affiliates – these ones earn above $3,000/day;
  • Super affiliates also called “gurus of affiliate marketing,” – those who make more than $10,000/day.

As you can see from this categorization super affiliates stand tall in the affiliate marketing industry, making as high as $10,000/day.

Frankly, these guys and gals know how to run profitable campaigns like the back of their hands and their bank accounts attest to it.

So, how do they do it?

Top 5 Super Affiliate “Secret” Strategies Revealed

Are you ready to learn the secret strategies that I’ve uncovered in my research?

Then read this very carefully:

These are really no secrets but fundamental marketing techniques that are tried, tested and proven to work 100% all the time. The only “secret” is in the execution.

So, if you’re prepared to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty, here are the top 5 proven strategies of the super affiliates:

Strategy #1: Super Affiliates Exude an Aura of Authority

Super affiliates compel you to believe them when you hear them talk. It has always been their “confidence and swagger” that sways buyers to purchase their products. Their credibility and sales conversion is directly proportional to their level of authority.

Just think about it, if you believe you’re talking to an expert, aren’t you compelled to listen to everything they have to say? Of course, you definitely want to sit tight and listen!

This is their #1 secret.

So, how can you establish authority? Here are a few tips:

  1. Speak with confidence. Even though you don’t know everything about the product, always speak as if you do.
  2. Show off your credentials, if you have any. Your degree, awards, and certificates from seminars you attended should be included in your bio pages. All of these can boost your value and establish authority.
  3. Become an author and publish some tips online. More people will notice your expertise, making you a figure of authority in your line of business.
  4. Entertain some interviews and be featured in some online blogs or articles. It creates a positive reputation for you and grants you the consumer’s confidence in your expertise. However, never beg for an interview.
  5. Always be confident. Never let any negative comment pull you down.

Strategy #2: Super Affiliates Always Give Out Additional Offers

Have you ever purchased a certain product because of the offers (aka bonuses!) that come tied in with it? If yes, then you’ve experienced one of these secret super affiliate tricks first hand.

When a new product is released, there are a lot of sellers who will be selling the same product. And since the competition is tough, super affiliates always give away additional offers.

And, you can do this also.

Here are a few ways you boost your sales with bonus offers:

  1. Offer additional bonuses that consumers can’t resist. Be sure to give something that other competitors can’t offer.
  2. Bonus offers should be sent out together with the product you sold. Having an automated process helps.

Strategy #3: Super Affiliates Have Super Blogs

Blogs are an essential part of an affiliate marketing business. Most affiliates consider blogging a lifeline to their business.

A review blog for instance gives you the traffic you need to boost your online authority. It helps you gather a list of consumers and possible clients.

When making your own blog, make sure to include these tidbits of information:

  1. Honesty over commissions. Make sure you’re posting real hard facts that describe a product. Your priority is to maintain your customers’ trust. Never post anything that sacrifices your reputation for a few bucks.
  2. New Products and Updates. Your avid readers and consumers who put their trust in you would love to hear directly from you about new products on the market.
  3. Surveys, Polls and Contests. People just love it when their voices are heard. Answering surveys and polls are a great way to share opinions. Contests are highly effective in spreading the word about an offer – if the prizes are good, that is.

Strategy #4: Super Affiliates Choose Solid Products

To maintain their reputation and the trust of their consumers, super affiliates always go for products with high quality. They know when you promote a product that sucks they will lose their credibility and buyers.

Now, you might be thinking, “How should I choose the products to promote?”

So here are tips you should keep in mind.

  1. When you promote a product, be sure to check the quality. Your product is a direct reflection of you as an affiliate. A lousy product only shows you’re desperate to sell anything.
  2. Choose a product that will sell to a wide variety of population. The more prospects you have the higher chances your sales will increase too.
  3. Closely watch lists of new products launching. When you see an offer with potential, do everything you can to get on the approved seller lists.
  4. It’s also best to pick out a product that is recurring or seasonal.

Strategy #5: Super Affiliates Know the Secrets of Preselling

Preselling is a strategy super affiliates use to let customers buy a new product ahead of time. They are able to do this successfully because they have built trust relationships with their customers (as mentioned above).

So, how do you do preselling?

Here are important things you need to know:

  1. The customer’s trust is one important thing to consider. Building trust with your customers will make it easier for you to presell.
  2. Add-on Offers. Offer something that customers can’t resist.
  3. Promote your product well. Sell it with confidence and pride. Let your consumers see that they need this product ahead of time.

You can Presell in several ways…

  1. Sending an Email Product Update Notification. Since you already have a list of your trusted consumers, you can send this exciting news to their inbox.
  2. Put a catchy notification bar on your sales page. If your sales page is getting a high number of views, flaunt your preselling event in there. Let it be clear and catchy.

Conclusion

There you have it. Super affiliates indeed do know their game and will always strive to break ahead of any possible competition in their line of industry. Staying on top is their highest priority. They always want to dominate the industry by maintaining a high profile and sales conversions compared to their competitors.

The question is: after being exposed to these strategies has your vision for YOURSELF grown at all?

Are you willing to do what it takes to create endless success and growth for your affiliate marketing business? Do you REALLY want out of the affiliate marketing ‘rat race’ that so many average affiliate have to deal with everyday?

Or, is building your internet business just some fantasy or hobby to you?

Honestly, you have to answer these questions yourself. And once you and you’re TOTALLY serious about this… then you’d want to sharpen your affiliate marketing skills in order to start implementing these super affiliate strategies.

And I’ve found this program to be tops when it comes to teaching the principles you’ll need to succeed:

Top 5 Blogging Mistakes that’s Frustrating Your Efforts (and How to Fix Them)

When I started this blog back in 2009 the subject of making money blogging was just at its infancy. A lot of people back then were jumping in and starting their own blogs.

Many of these bloggers became overnight gurus dishing out how to make money blogging tips. Every where you turn there was a blog on how to make money blogging. A lot of times the same tips were just being tweaked and re-posted on different blogs.

On the surface it does appear that most of these bloggers were really making a ton of money from their efforts. However, over the years I have observed a lot of these “guru bloggers” drop by the wayside!

I can attest to this fact because every time I do a general review of this blog I’ve always seen a huge number of broken links. Most of these broken links are mostly from blogs that I have linked to over the years.

But why would someone who have always shown that they are making money from their blogs and have taken it upon themselves to teach others how to make money blogging suddenly abandon their blog?

The answer to that question is not far fetched. The truth is most of those guru bloggers were only putting up a front. While they may appear to be successful on the surface the truth is most of them were making next to nothing from their blogs.

For example, while a recent report indicated that about 67.5% of bloggers blog to make money online only about 5% of bloggers are actually making a full income from their blogs!

This is why a lot of bloggers after struggling for years trying to scrap a living from their blog end up throwing in the trowel. Of course, it’s  frustrating to put in so much and yet get nothing out.

In this post I want to share with you the top five mistakes that I have found, over these years, to be main reason why many bloggers fail. Matter of fact is, if you’re presently struggling with your blog, one of these mistakes might just be the culprit!

Why Seemly Hard -Working Bloggers Fail!

Mistake #1: Blogging without a Definite Purpose

How make money blogging

Do you have a purpose for your blog?

What is your motivation for starting the blog?

Do you have a story to tell?

It’s unfortunate that many of the blogs out there are nothing but “just another blog!” From design to content; and tactics, there’s really nothing that separates them from other blogs.

In fact, many of these blogs were started because the blogger was impressed by the results being posted by other probloggers out there.

The truth is, if you want to make money with your blog it is important that you have a definite purpose for the blog. You must be able to answer the question, WHY this blog? Not taking care of this before you start will put a whole lot of boulders on your way.

So, if you are in this boat right now it’s important that you take some time off and settle this issue. Ask yourself questions like:

  • Why am I really blogging?
  • I’m I here just to share my thoughts and opinions or to make a living?
  • If I’m here to make money how do I do that?
  • Should I be promoting affiliate products or selling my own product/service?
  • And what do I need to do to accomplish this?

Doing this right now will help you get a clearer picture and the focus of your blog.

Mistake #2: Blogging without a Plan

Not having a blogging plan

It’s unfortunate that many bloggers do not have a plan and worst still they never care to have one.

As the common saying goes, when you fail to plan you’re planning to fail. Unfortunately, not many bloggers who want to make money blogging really care to take this to heart.

I encourage you to read this post on how to set SMART goals for your blog.

Once you have decided on the purpose of your blog, designing a plan on how to achieve that purpose will greatly help on your journey. A blogging plan should answer the question of how you expect to make money with your blog and what you must do to achieve that goal.

Your plan for making money from your blog will determine the type of content you showcase on your blog. It’s definite that a blog that is designed to sell advertising space would be different content-wise from the one that is focused on selling your consulting practice!

Mistake #3: Not Building a List

This is really a big one.

Despite hearing it over and over again that the money is in the lists, many bloggers have not seen the need to start an email list. They are content with just writing content, interacting with other bloggers in the comment section of their blogs and connecting on social media sites.

As much as these things are good, you must know that an email list is your greatest asset when it comes to marketing online. Let no one deceive you with talk about email being a dead online marketing tactic. Indeed, many internet marketers may have put a bad name on this because of their spammy email promotions but don’t let that put you off.

Offering email subscription on your blog is the easiest way of turning your blog into a money making machine. Remember, not everyone who visits your blog will return except you have a system to bring them back. Capturing their contact info and adding them to your email contact list is the best way to do that.

You may have an RSS feed subscription on your blog but that has many limitations which an email list will help you overcome.

Here are some industry recognized autoresponder services that will help you build a list:

  1. GetResponse.com – Widely used by internet marketers
  2. MailerLite.com – High-quality service for an incredibly low price. You can use the system for FREE if you only have 1,000 subscribers or less. (Highly Recommended)
  3. RapidMailer.com – Your best choice if you want to run your own autoresponder. It’s a one-time payment.

Mistake #4: Choosing the Wrong Market

Choosing a blogging niche

I did a post some time ago on spooky business start up tips where I clearly stated that if you start a business just based on what you love without carefully checking for profitability, you’re bound to struggle.

This is more so when blogging to make money!

Of course, it is important that you choose your blog topic based on what you know and you’re interested in as this will help you greatly in writing content and showing your expertise. However, except your desire is to share your thoughts with your family and friends, it is important that you research the profitability of your target niche before you jump in.

That being said, it will be an uphill task if you choose a blogging niche simply because of the money. Focusing only on the money will ultimately lead to frustration.

So, what to do?

Choose your blog niche based on market profitability and your passion.

The good news is, if you know little to nothing about a niche you can spend a few weeks to research the topic online. Doing this will set you on the path of becoming an expert in that field in no distant time.

There are thousands of online tools available that you can use. If you’re already blogging and you discover you are having problems with this, take some time off, do the necessary research and then reposition your blog.

Mistake #5: Not Driving the Right Traffic

I must say that this is one problem that many bloggers are having without really knowing it. Over these years I’ve come across very wonderful and passionate bloggers. From all indications they appear to be doing great with their blogs. Superb blog posts, impressive blog comment sections, social buttons displaying the envious number of shares, etc.

But, when you ask how much they are making from their blogs the responses are a nothing to write about!

Many of these bloggers cover up with things like: blogging is not about making money but connecting with like minds! But I don’t really think these bloggers love working their butts off just because they want to be known as a blogger. Or, do you?

But, what is really the problem here?

It is this: these bloggers are simply driving the wrong type of traffic to their blogs!

Like we have seen above your blog exist for a specific purpose. In the same way, your blog should be targeted at a specific group. If you have clearly defined the purpose of your blog from the beginning knowing your blogs target audience will not be a problem.  And this will determine your promotional tactics.

When you have these sorted out you wouldn’t waste your time running round other blogs, commenting and interacting with other bloggers, except they are your targeted audience.

To drive the right type of traffic to your blog, go where your target audience is and then entice them to your blog. This way monetizing your blog traffic will become easy.

Conclusion

I don’t know which of these blogging mistakes is holding your back from making money with your blog. But the truth is if you will take the time and work on these ones you will soon begin to see a change in your blogging success.

Feel free to share your thoughts on these blogging mistakes in the comments below. Is there any of these mistakes that you are presently making with your blog? Is there any one you will want to add?

How to Find the Right Answering Service for Your Business

Communication is key in a variety of disciplines throughout life. In the business world, however, it has the capability to make or break relationships with clients, vendors and others vital to the day-to-day operations of a particular business. It’s important therefore that you have a seamless system for staying in touch with your customers.

Unfortunately, because the customer service landscape is fast changing because of the challenges that mobile, email and social media has thrown up the can be very difficult for smaller companies to compete in this realm. Doing so might involve higher payroll expenses to bring in a secretary or communications staff.

While that could be a big hit to the bottom line of any budget, there are some more cost-effective solutions that might meet all applicable needs without breaking the bank. The best of these solutions is engaging the services of a telephone answering service.

What Is A Telephone Answering Service?

Find the Right Answering Service for Your Business

At the basic level a telephone answering service receives and answers calls on behalf of other businesses. Based on the customer’s instructions the receiving service uses both automated and real human beings to process and deliver incoming calls.

When you engage the services of a telephone answering company it is like having your own call center – without the cost involved!

Some of the things a receiving service can do for your business include:

  • Relaying urgent calls to an on-call personnel
  • Screening calls in order to protect company personnel from non-urgent and sometimes superfluous calls
  • Providing an off-site “front office secretary” in order to replace an expensive on-site staff member, or to handle occasional excess traffic.

How to Choose a Consistent and Reliable Answering Service

When you’re ready to employ the services of a telephone answering service for your business you should consider the following:

1. Find a Solution for the Problems That Exist

Every business is different and the priorities of their executives or owners are also unique. When the time comes to advance a particular department within an organization, pay attention to what the actual needs are and find a way to address them comprehensively and economically.

When discussing an answering service or similar addition, it pays to shop around and find not only the best tech or human resources for the job but also the one that offers the biggest bang for the buck. As it turns out, there are many options available that can offer great assistance for a reasonable price. It might save payroll expenses that would otherwise come from hiring a staff member to remain on hand to field phone calls and other communications.

2. Find the Best Deal for the Right Services

Once a company and its executive staff understands the complexities and individual issues it is facing in this arena, it will be much easier to do some comparison shopping.

Look online for recommendations of products that have high levels of reliability and interactivity to minimize frustration for those calling outside of business hours. Endless voice prompts or a convoluted series of entries can dissuade otherwise loyal customers from even calling the number to share questions or concerns.

3. Find Out What Others in the Same Industry Are Using

When you’re ready to employ the services of a telephone answering service for your business you should consider the following:

This is important for two distinct reasons: First, competitors trying to serve the same customer base will probably be able to reveal what works well and what does not meet the needs of a particular business model. On the other hand, a review of competitors in the industry could also show where there might be an opportunity to distinguish one business from the rest of the crowd. Finding a novel solution or establishing a niche segment within the larger market.

Conclusion

There is no doubt that customer care is crucial to your business success. However, with businesses going global and operating round the clock, having a telephone answering service is not a luxury but a wise business investment. Use the tips above to decide on the right answering service for your small business and never miss any opportunity to stay in touch with those vital to the running of your business.

Video blogging, or vlogging as it is now popularly known, is one of the rising trends when it comes to marketing and making online. This rising trend is as a result of the increasing number of people who are turning to online videos either for entertainment or learning about their most desired topics.

  • 64% of consumers purchase after watching branded social videos.
  • 92% of mobile video consumers share videos with others.
  • 1 minute of video is equal to 1.8 Million words to your audience.

  • Video on a landing page can increase conversions by 80% or more.
  • By 2020, 75% of all mobile traffic will be video.
With such interesting stats it’s understandable why you might be interested in starting a video blog.

Stats like this is not something that a wise marketer would want to take for granted. So, if you’re thinking of jumping into the growing wave of vlogging you’re definitely on the right track.

What Equipment Do You Need For Vlogging?

One of the top-most question you need to answer if you’re thinking of starting a video blog is, what kind of equipment should you use?

It doesn’t matter whether you want to start your own vlog or you want to post your videos on your Youtube channel, you need the right equipment to get your vlogging adventure on the path to success.

In this post I want to share with you 5 essential bits of vlogging gear that will help you make your video blogging dream a reality.

Vlogger Starter Kits

Before discussing the different equipment below I want to say you can actually get a vlogging starter kit instead of buying each piece individually.

Why would you want to do that?

There are actually a number of advantages to getting a starter kit instead of buying individual equipment. Here’s just a couple of reasons:

  1. Getting a vlogging starter kit is cheaper
  2. With a starter kit you’ll save yourself the pain and time of researching the market trying to determine the appropriate equipment for your vlog. Vlogging starter kits bundle together the exact tools you need for a vlog and nothing more. This makes things simple and easy for you.

If the above are good enough reasons you may want to check out some of the top rated vlogging starter kits right away.

That being said, let’s get on with our must have vlogging equipment for beginners.

Equipment #1: Camera

A camera is definitely the first piece of equipment you’ll need as a vlogger. Of course, you can decide to use your inbuilt computer webcam or even your smartphone if you don’t want to buy some expensive camera.

However, if you want to produce higher-quality videos that will present you as the professional that you are then getting a camera like the Canon EOS 70D is a great idea.

The Canon 70D allows you to fix in an external mic and wide lenses, and is great for taking super sharp videos and pictures.

Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR Camera

When shopping for your vlogging camera you should take into consideration where you’ll be filming your videos. If you’ll be doing most of your filming on the go then you must consider the size of your camera (it should be something that can be carried about easily) and the battery capacity (since you may not always have access to a power outlet). It’s also important that you consider the size of the storage cards.

Equipment #2: Microphone

As a vlogger your desire is to get more and more people on your video blog. However, if the sound quality of your videos is poor that will put off a lot of people. This is something you don’t want to happen, right? And, the best way to avoid this is to ensure that the audio quality of your video is high.

To ensure high quality audio it is advisable to use an external microphone instead of the built-in microphones on your camera, or computer (if you’re using a webcam). There are a good number of high quality microphones in the market that you can choose from. One good option is the camera-mounted Rode VideoMicPro Compact Directional On-Camera Microphone.

Rode VideoMicPro Compact Directional On-Camera MicrophoneAnother very good on-camera microphone is the Comica CVM-V30. At just $39.99 the CVM-V30 Lightweight microphone is definitely a steal considering the fact that it can be used on your cameras and smartphones. You simply need to switch the mode you want on and you are good to go!

You can also click here to search on Amazon.com for more high quality microphones for your camera.

Equipment #3: Video Support

As a vlogger you’re going to need a tripod to support your camera since you’d be setting up shots from different angles. The type of camera you’re using will determine the type of tripod you’d need.

For example, if you’re using a heavy camera, you could go for a tripod like the Magnus VT-4000 Professional High Performance Tripod System with fluid head.

For travel vloggers a Joby GorillaPod is definitely the best choice. The fluid movements of the GorillaPod video Pro gives it so much flexibility that you can easily wrap the flexible legs around handlebars or poles to fix your camera to areas that would normally be off limits. You can also stand it on a flat surface like a standard tripod to make smooth videos or grip it to use as a handheld rig.Joby JB01561-BWW Gorillapod 5K Video Pro

Equipment #4: Lighting

Another video blogging equipment that you’ll need as a vlogger is good lighting. Using good lighting equipment will not only make you look healthier in video but it will also give your videos a professional look.

Of course, you don’t have to be unnecessarily fanciful about this. In fact, if you have a good amount of windows in your room you could just make do with that. However, if your home doesn’t have good lighting sources then I’d recommend you pick up a MOUNTDOG Softbox Lighting Kit.

MOUNTDOG 1350W Photography Continuous Softbox Lighting Kit

There are a good number of other options in the market you can choose from for this kind of lighting. Here are the most popular choices that I recommend:

Equipment #4: Editing Software

Once you’ve filmed your video blog the next thing is getting the freshly recorded content edited. This step as it’s practically impossible to get a perfect video from the first take. So getting a video editing software is essential.

Again for this, there are different options available for you to choose from. In fact, there are a lot of free tools to choose from. However, if you want something more professional, then getting a paid editor is paramount. The two paid options that I recommend are Sony Vegas Pro and VideoPad Editor.

If you’re running a Windows computer you may want to look into the Sony Vegas Pro as this editor has all professional programs that give you all the tools you’ll need to edit your video. Please carefully read the recommended specs listed with the software to ensure your computer can handle it.

If you’re a Mac person then the VideoPad Video Editor is your best choice:

Conclusion

Alright, that’s it for the 5 essential equipment that you need as a vlogger. Whether you’re just getting started with your video blog or you are ready to take yours to the next level you will want to look into the different tools mentioned above. With the right equipment in place vlogging isn’t all that complicated. So, make your choice today and get it on with your video blogging adventure.

How to Use Social Media & Email Marketing For More Value Online

Given an option between and email , which would you choose as a small ?

Now, for many small owners this is really a hard decision to make. Of course, with the buzz about social media, especially Facebook and its huge user base, many will readily go for social media.

But, what if I tell you that scientifically proven stats states otherwise? What if researches over the years have proven over and over again that email marketing trumps social media marketing when it comes to marketing your business!

Surprised?

You should be because that’s not what the social media marketing experts want you to believe. But frankly, many of these are only concerned with selling you that super duper program that will help you create the much desired success on social media.

But no matter what any person says, as a small business when it comes to marketing your business online you definitely want to focus on those activities that produce the desired results and not just the noise.

This is not only wise when it comes to investing your money but for the fact that you have limited time to run and grow your business.

Now, comparing social media and email marketing is really like comparing apples and oranges. There may really be any area of comparison. However, like I have just said above, when it comes to marketing your business, you should focus on results. You want to judiciously invest your limited budget on the strategies and tactics that gives the most results both in time and resources put in.

So, the purpose of this post is to help you make the best choice and, as you will soon see, get the MOST from both worlds!

email marketing and social media showdown

Social Media Poor In Turning Readers Into Customers?

This might seem counter-intuitive considering the buzz about social media marketing. But the tell-all stats are glaring.

Let’s consider a few:

1. McKinsey & Co. – This survey result in 2013 by McKinsey & Co. clearly puts email far ahead of social media in effectiveness when it comes to acquiring customers!

Social media marketing vs Email marketing

As you can see in those results, email is nearly 40 times more effective than Facebook and combined!

2. OpenMoves.com – Recently, Amir Chitayat from OpenMoves published results for one of his clients where he revealed that the results of email marketing are more tangible and with better ROI if you are looking for leads or sales. The results of the test showed that email generated 1,192 direct transactions and 872 assisted transactions – that’s a total of 2,064 transactions standing at a ratio of 0.73. This means, email marketing generated more direct conversions than assisted! Now, note that he uses both email marketing and social media and spends about the same amount of budget on them.

Social media, on the other hand, generated less direct transactions (only 173) as well as 1010 assisted conversions. This is a ratio of 0.58. What this mean is that social media had less direct conversions and contributed less to assisted conversions!

3. Getresponse.com – In it’s “State of Email Marketing 2016” report Getresponse.com reported an average open rate of 21.73% for email marketing. This is in an industry where, for example, Facebook and Twitter have an organic reach of about 6% and less than 2% respectively!

Getresponse state of email marketing 2016

The import of this is that if you have 3,000 email subscribers, 3,000 Facebook fans and 3,000 followers on Twitter, what you will likely get is:

  • 652 people will open your email
  • 180 Facebook fans will see your message
  • 60 Twitter followers will see your message

From each and every one of those reports, it is very clear, that email marketing far outperforms social media in terms of reach and ROI.

Now, the BIG QUESTION:

Should You Abandon Social Media Marketing?

Combining email marketing and social media

Does the above results mean your investment every day, posting and tweeting on the various social media platforms, is a waste of time and resources?

Not really!

I want you to take a look at the McKinsey & Co. report again. Did you notice that between 2008 and 2012 there was a 20% decline in e-mail usage while social media networks, instant messaging and mobile-messaging had some form of increased usage?

I’m sure you will agree that that trend has not changed over the years. Personally, I believe that the slow-down in email usage is not unconnected with the increase of spam emails and the social media buzz which had led to many businesses investing in social media than email marketing over this period of time.

So, taking all these reports into cognizance, instead of abandoning social media the better route would be a marketing strategy that combines the power of both email marketing and social media.

Remember, the two insights from these reports are:

a. Email beats social media when it comes to customer acquisition

and…

b. Social Media usage is on the increase and generates more assisted conversions!

As a small business you can actually have more value for your marketing spend by combining the two. By so doing you create a win-win situation for your business marketing. You simply need to:

1. Use social media to grow your email list – Your potential customers are already socializing on platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, etc. All you need is a well designed strategy to move them over to offers and build a list to help you turn them into customers.

I advise that you download this Facebook marketing guide for small businesses.

2. Use email marketing to boost your ROI! – You’ll need an email list management service like Getresponse.com to do this.

For a detailed guide on how to put this strategy together I encourage you to read this post:

“The 3 Scientific Steps to Using Social Media for Online Selling!”

Conclusion

These reports on social media and email marketing are indeed an eye opener for small businesses who wants to use social media marketing for their online promotions. One thing that is clear from these stats is, social media is not the right channel if you expect short term rewards in terms of revenue or profitability. On the other hand, to use email marketing you will need to understand what permission marketing is all about.

Simply posting updates about your business on social media and broadcasting marketing/sales messages through email will not help you achieve your business goals. A carefully crafted marketing strategy, as outlined in this report (Click here to download!) is what will help you do the magic.

So, what do you think? Are you having great success with your social media marketing as against what this research report states?

How NOT to Sabotage Your Small Business Marketing Success

Wondering if a business person would in any way really sabotage his/her own success?  Of course that sounds impossible but the truth is, many are. While many small business owners think they are effectively marketing their business, the fact is they are cutting their own throat!

It doesn’t matter if as a small business entrepreneur you’re running ads that are pulling in leads/customers. You may even be a business blogger writing regular and impressive blog posts and you’re perceived as an expert in your field.  Yet if you’re failing in the following areas, you definitely may be sabotaging your own success because successful marketing goes beyond these things.

Small Business Marketing Tips

The following are a few ways small business owners unknowingly sabotage their own success.

1. No Marketing Plan

There is a popular saying that those who fail to plan have already planned to fail. That indeed is the truth. If as a business person you have no marketing plan, no matter what you’re doing right now you’ve set in motion forces that will sabotage your marketing success. Of course you can market without a plan but a plan will help your focus your marketing efforts so that you can make the most of your marketing budget.  So if you don’t have a marketing plan right now make sure you create one.

2. No Written Goals

Just think about it for a moment, those marketing activities you’re engaged in right now do you have a specific objective you want to achieve with them? Are your goals written down? This is another area where many business entrepreneurs sabotage their marketing efforts. As a business person you need a clear vision and a target to aim for with every of your marketing activities. That’s the way of smart business owners. They have written goals and objectives for what they want to achieve with their business and for each of their marketing activities. What more, proofs abound of people who put their goals into writing having a higher success rate than those who do not.  A written marketing goal will help you determine how much of marketing you need thereby making things a lot more easier for you.

3. Short-Term Mental Attitude

Another way you can sabotage your marketing success as a business person is in your approach to what you’re doing. Are you consistent with your marketing efforts? Do you pull the plug too soon? Are you the reactive type who, though it may appear, is doing a lot of marketing on the surface is not doing anything consistently or long enough to make any impact?

You must understand that consistency is one virtue you must learn as a business person.  Running an ad or sending out your newsletter a few times and then giving up because you received no immediate results is worse than doing nothing at all.

You should know that marketing statistics indicates it takes somewhere between three and 10 exposures to a message for the average consumer to notice it and take action.  It therefore means that having a short-term attitude towards your marketing is actually detrimental as it’s quite possible your audience may only be warming up to your messages about the time you threw in the towel!

4. No Unique Selling Proposition (USP)

Maybe placing this at the bottom of this list may give you the impression that you can really overlook this but that is indeed fallacy. In fact, this is probably the biggest culprit why many business owners sabotage their marketing efforts without even realizing it.

Why do you expect someone to buy your product or service instead of all the other products or services available to them?  Have you figured this out?

You should be able to figure out what is unique and better about your product or service, and then found a compelling way to communicate this in your marketing message. Business experts all agree that no matter how great a marketing plan may be it will be of no use if you have not clearly defined your USP.  Therefore marketing without a clear Unique Selling Proposition (USP) will only be wasting your time and your money.

How to Banish Marketing Sabotage and Succeed With Your Business Promotions

1. Develop a marketing plan – Of course this is obvious from the foregoing. As a business person your number priority should be to develop a marketing plan every year.

2. Write objectives – Write at least one objective that states what results you would like to achieve with your business over the next year.  And, write at least one objective for every marketing activity you undertake, that states what results you would like to achieve from that activity over the next year.

3. Stay the course – Check in on your progress toward your objectives every three to six months, but give your plan a good nine to 12 months to work.

4. Determine your unique selling proposition and make sure it is represented clearly and in a compelling way in everything you do.

5. Don’t try to be “everything to everyone.”  Focus on a few specific benefits and a specific audience.

6. Track all of your marketing activities so you know exactly what is working and what is not working.

7. Don’t rely on one marketing activity. Employ a mix of several marketing activities to reach more people more times.

8. Create a system to help you stay on track with your marketing activities every month and to help you plan ahead for future activities.

9. Create a realistic budget based on a percentage of your projected revenue, or the dollars you have available for marketing and stick to it.  Marketing is an investment in your business. You have to spend enough to make progress but not more than your business can financially support.

10. Understand your environment – The economy, competition, the strength of your particular industry, your prospects’ situation.  You have to understand them all so you can create an effective plan to either overcome obstacles or take advantage of opportunities.

Take away: A marketing plan built on a clear unique selling proposition with the right objectives is necessary if you don’t want to sabotage your marketing success. A well thought out plan based on the guidelines above will ensure that your business stand a much greater chance of succeeding.  All of these activities are part of a good marketing plan. And no business that wants to succeed should be without one.

Over to you: Do you agree that business entrepreneurs need a well figured out marketing plan to succeed marketing their business online? Let’s have your take on this in your comments.

How to Write a Good Blog Title: SEO Title Tips!

Putting together a blog post is like constructing a building. There are different parts to the blog that will make it achieve your purpose. But of all these the title is the most important.

Crafting a powerful title for your blog post is a skill you must master as a blogger. Your post titles are simply headlines that could make or break your posts!

In this post I want to reveal a simple tactic that you can use to greatly empower your post titles. I’m sure you’ve heard about the why and how to optimize your titles for the search engines. All that is good stuff. But the tactic I want to reveal here is something that will take your post titles to another level when it come to search engine optimization.

This simple tactic could really be laid out in 3 components. But I’ll simply handle it by breaking it up as follows:

Writing blog titles that work

1. Write For Your Regular Readers:

The first aspect of your blog title you want to work on is writing a title that will peek the interest of your regular readers. To get this right you want to know what has been popular with your readers and the topic you’re dealing with in your particular blog post.

Once you’ve these in place, craft a blog title that will make them click and read more.

Remember your regular readers will not go to google before they come to your blog. They are not searching for your site. Either they will come via RSS feed or they might simply enter your blog URL into their blowser.

But once they are on your blog, the first thing that will entice them to read more is the title. So put in your best in writing that title. Frankly you may forget about seo here as that will be taken care of below!

Well, that’s not much or is it?

On to #2!

2. Polish Your Title For The Search Engines:

Now this is where the fun starts.

I know you’re not writing only for your regular readers. You also want to get more search engine traffic, or don’t you?

Ok, search engine traffic is frankly a different ball game. To achieve that you’ll need to make sure that your post does not only appear on the search engine results but the title actually makes people to click and visit your blog.

What you need do is to easily work on the same title you’ve written and make it do the work for you. You can easily do this with any seo plugin like All In SEO Pack plugin.

Once you’ve this installed, before publishing your blog post, take the same title you’ve written and rework it. Ensure that you build in a little curiosity and your target keywords/phrases into it. Enter the new title into the SEO box in your writing section. It’s something like this:

seo title image

3. Shorten and SEO The Post Link:

One other thing you can do to empower the title is to shorten and seo the post link. This can be done easily using the new permalink feature of wordpress. Just below the title pane you’ll see the post permalink.

shorten blog title example

Click on the “Edit” button and then enter a short and optimized link with your keywords/phrase. For example on this post the permalink is, “http://webincomejournal.com/1325/headlines-simple-seo-tactic.” Once you’ve entered what you want click on “ok”.

4. Craft A Powerful Description For The Post:

The last thing you’ll want to do before publishing your post is to enter a description for the post.

Understand that when it comes to search engine marketing what will help your blog article to achieve its purpose of drawing traffic to your blog is its ability to offer something of interest to the searcher.

Getting on the first page of Google is nothing. What really matters is that people click on your links and visit your blog. And most times what will achieve this is not just the title but the title in conjunction with the description.

It must interest you to know that if you don’t give the search engines a description, they will simply take the first few words on your post and return that as the description. Or most times they return your blog home description!

This does not only affect the search engine ranking of that post but also may not peek the interest of that particular searcher.

So how do you give the search engines a description for each of your post?

You simply take that post’s target keywords/phrases and write a short description for the post. All In One SEO Pack plugin is handy here also. Just below the title pane of the plugin you’ll see the pane for the description. Enter the description here. For example, for this post here is the description I used,

“Writing SEO blog titles are a good way of driving organic targeted traffic from the search engines. Read this post and discover a simple way of doing this..!”

Now if you look at that description you’ll discover that those sentences never appeared any where on the post itself. But simply putting them there is a boost to the effectiveness of the post when it appears on the search engine results.

So Let’s See The Results Of This Simple SEO Tactic!

Yes, I want to show how this tactic will come out at the end of the day! So let’s use this very blog post. I’ve just published it before taking this screen shots. First how the post appears on your blog page:

the blog title

and here’s how it appears on your title bar:

title bar example

Do you note that the post title on the blog page is different from the one on the title bar? The one on the blog is visible to your readers why the one the task bar is what searchers will see on the search engines.

This is really powerful. You can use this to empower your blog titles for more SEO results every time!

So let’s hear what you think of this tactic. Have you been using it? If so how effective has it been to you?
